Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Proviso is a circus right now.

Flat switching is going horrible right now. Venas contract needs to get terminated. Conductors furloughed. More Carmen furloughs are coming soon. This is a hump yard. No way around it. Automate the hump and let us railroad!!! You got rid of that horrible FTx system now let us railroad. Best railroaders in the world right here in Chicago!!!

Don't worry Vena doesn't want it to work. Soon Roseville will be empty like Hinkle.

People at work are claiming they are dumping their stock. If I had any I would. Strange times. I wonder if RR’s will ever go back to worrying about the shippers instead of the share holders? I’ve been reading articles about unhappy shippers and I wonder what is a company without happy customers?

Building on what the person below me said. Proviso isn't designed for flat-switching due to how Yard 9 is set up. The number of inside switches makes it bad in good weather and possibly fatal come the winter months. To believe that flat-switching is going to be the greatest thing in the world would be to admit that CNW and the UP over the course of a 90 year period never seriously considered removing the hump.

Supposedly there was a switching expert from Omaha at the yard today who commented that switching on the south end of Yard 9 was not a good idea. There was also a recent derailment by a switching job in Yard 4. The yard is simply not laid out correctly, the switches and rails not maintained well enough to handle the constant back and forth.

Automating the Hump would have been a better decision instead of this current mess. Many guys weren't trained how to flat-switch and some of the instructors in charge of training haven't seen ground duty in years. The circus is in full-swing.

Proviso isn’t layed out to flat switch in. Doesn’t have good leads to switch on. It’s layed out as a hump yard.

The entire company is a circus.

If you run over derails and through switches, how is that the companies fault? That’s railroading 101. And by the way the FRA was here yesterday and today. Still feel you have all the answers? Your feelings will get hurt. You seem to be clueless on basic train handling and what’s going on around you.

Keep complaining and Vena will shut the whole operation down. No turning back the clock adapt or be a catalyst for change

Maybe the circus is the crews that don’t know how to flat switch. Greatest crews in the world? Hardly.

It’s not flat switching,it’s really flattening switches until everyone gets use to it. Be careful during this transition because derails and running over or thru switches will increase. They will come in and fire a few guys to right the ship and put the fear of god into everyone to accomplish their goals ! Then they will ride off into the sunset counting their money. Don’t be concerned about the FRA, they won’t be anywhere to be seen, well at least for a few weeks they won’t be around. Good luck!
