Thread regarding BB&T Corp. layoffs

Major layoffs incoming at BB&T

I don't know about Wilson, but I know the Bank is looking to cut costs (ie salaries) by around 20% or 25% per dept. All layoffs will occur at once, prior to the merger in October. If you are let go, at least you can feel comforted knowing you won't be the only one. There will be a lot of quality people kicked to the curb.

I personally think they will make the jobs so horrible (as if they aren't already) that people will be fired for incompetence. The only people that are safe are the brown nosers and pets of the managers. Your hard work or loyalty means nothing to this dog eat dog company. Worse place to work in Wilson. Sad that it has ruined so many lives. Just the lives of the Peons of course. The big wheels always get more and more while taking from the little "guy".

OP, I didn't think that ALL layoffs were happening at once? Or at least I didn't read one of the last communications that spoke about this that way. Maybe you have better Intel though since they surely haven't given much to the folks in IT whom a lot of work out of Wilson. At this point, I don't care what happens if they're going to do it to me then just do it and get it over with ffs! Tired of this drawn out process of everybody having to be on pins and needles and worry about if they will be able to support their families. Wilson is already dead end town but if they cut the majority that's hear then it will be a ghost town. And there are very few decent jobs here as is. Pretty sad seeing where we started and then thinking of where we're "going" (or lack there of).

Yes, we were also offered the $1500 stay bonus although we're still up in the air whether we'll have a job. Morale is at it's lowest ever and worked dumped on us to make up for the managers who were RIfed. Many of us are looking elsewhere to get out of this mess.

Unfortunately experience isn't a factor most of the time. Longer service typically are the highest earners, low hanging fruit in the whack-a-person game. For whatever reason the powers that be appear to be favoring Suntrust in this merger. Strange being BB&T is actually the acquiring bank in this case. The 1500$ bonus to the lower level employees is a tactic to keep them from jumping ship, I hope they see thru this and stay because they want too not because of this small bonus. Suntrust wealth people on the other hand were given huge free loans that will be forgiven in 8 years if they stay that long. Majority excepted and sign on for this bribe. Anyone know if BB&T folks got the same offer?

SunTrust's culture is horrific, no one takes responsibility for anything. From what I am hearing, it does appear SunTrust is making many decisions who will remain. My manager keeps telling me that many are retiring on their own accord. Give me a break, I'm not stupid, these retirees are in there 50's. What I don't get is the good guys/gals with many years with the bank are the ones getting booted out. All that experience gone. So sad :(

With each passing day and drip of info, it is more obvious that the merger savings (layoffs) will come primarily from the backs of BB&T employees. This merger of equals (haa haa) looks less equal with each passing day. I am saddened and deeply regret wasting all these years being a loyal subject of King Kelly. Wait until King Midas Rogers takes the helm of this sinking ship!

Severance is offered at both institutions if it’s due to reduction in force. LD1 is October and word is corporate cuts will begin late August. Branch announcements won’t be until 2020 IMO. What’s meant to be will be!
