Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

There are plenty of reasons why people don't just quit

It’s very easy for someone to say “Why not quit?” When they aren’t in your circumstances.

First, some people who have been employed at Lowe’s for a long time, it was once a decent place to work. Then the changes came. But if you’ve worked for Lowe’s for years and built up pay, benefits, vacation time, etc, it’s not so easy to just walk away. Even if you want to do it.

Secondly, if you jump ship to a new retailer after years at Lowe’s, you wind up at the bottom, working your way up again. The company knows this, believe me. And there are places in this country that literally have no other jobs than retail. There’s no other option other than to work for a place like Lowe’s. The company knows this too.

And why should you have to quit? Is it too much to ask that you be treated like a human being and paid a decent wage? Is treating your associates like people instead of cattle too much to ask? You act like the complaints on sites like this are just the idle whining of losers. I’ve read a lot of the points made on this site and while some are pointless, some are legitimate criticisms and complaints. We shouldn’t have to jump ship to another employer if this company would simply live up to its promises and policies. Be the company you say you are Lowe’s. Then sites like this wouldn’t exist!

Perfectly said, @104zyF0W-2ifi.

That was my issue when I was with Lowe's for 13 years. Grandfathered into SPIFF's and collecting a very good wage. The job made my physically sick everyday though so when I knew I was getting laid off and had an end date I was very happy. While I am making less with new employer benefits ar a ton better. Hours are flexible. No more weekends or nights. No more rotating schedule which I hear is worse now. No more 401K that restricts you to putting into funds you have no clue about or receive a dividend. Now I get more in dividends then lowe's put in. No more arrogant customers demanding everything because they are spending a little cash. So many more negatives then positives but when you have a family of 4 and sole provider you stay miserable.

Also 17 years with Lowe's...but, my wife got a good promotion at her job 7 years ago and again 3 years ago...no longer need Lowe's for benefits, but I like getting out of the house...dropped down to permanent part time from full time, with limited availability.

17 yrs with lowes, never thought I'd find something to compare with pay or benefits but i did.
I'm treated with respect at my new job. 40 hrs guaranteed, payday every friday, better benefits and best of all i no longer have to deal with entitled customers that demand the impossible.
There is a better life after lowes....go find it!
