Mgmt Dress Code

Just wondering the legalities of CVS's dress code for Managers. Men wear ties and the women dress business casual. In todays world of equalities and everyone being treated the same how can CVS say that Men have to wear ties. In todays stores the Managers are doing a lot of the work and the damn tie just gets in the way and as hot and humid as they keep the stores it's too much. I feel like business casual should be fine for all. Can I hear some feedback on this?

Most of my male FS SM’s opt to wear their polo every day. If there is a DL visit then they will wear dress shirt, tie, etc. You can order nice polos from the Overture catalog too.

Walgreens managers DO NOT wear a full suit as the previous person suggests. The dress code was relaxed over a year ago. No ties for male management employees. Business casual for DMs on up. I am a Walgreens employee lurking on here, so I can speak to this with confidence.

I got promoted to SM a couple years ago after changing markets. Loaded up on shirts and ties. 2 years later, none of the shirts fit; my store has zero airflow (so 70 feels like 92 after a few trips to the stockroom), and I operate 25 hours under minimum so I made the decision to be in business casual until someone made a stink. So far no one has.

The way I see it, if someone wants to fire me over a dress code violation and think they can get an upgrade; they can be my guest.

Though a tie is part of the dress code, it varies depending on the DL.
I was a store manager and didn't wear a tie for 2 years, moved to another store in same region, but different district, and the second day I was there the LP manager stopped by the pharmacy, and introduced himself. Less than an hour later I got a text from my new DL that I must wear a tie as part of the uniform (I had dress shirt on, just no tie), and when he visited he made a comment that he was glad I was wearing a tie because he didn't want to write me up on first visit.

There should always be a distinction between who the store manager or manager on duty is versus the cashiers. Management personnel should look different from the others, so when customers walk in they can always tell who’s a manager and who’s a cashier. If you’re a manager or supervisor you should look like one. Jeans, leggings, yoga pants, etc are NOT appropriate.

I wear khaki pants and either a dress shirt or cvs blues
No DL or rd has ever said a thing
I always tuck in and look professional - if the avp is visiting I wear a tie - I don't allow jeans never

Honestly I haven’t worn my shirt and tie for more than a year now. I wear the polos and kakis everyday. We do too much physical work for dress clothes. I have a DL who does pay attention to much though.

The shifts can wear the blue shirts, only the Mgrs and the Mgr trainees are to wear ties.

Does the dress code for ties apply to shift supervisors too, or just SM?

Yes the dress code does state it. I personally keep a tie in the office and wear button down shirts I find on the clearance rack. I keep a nice shirt in the office in case I get a btw important people are coming. I think the tie is less of an issue compared to the jeggings and leggings that every cashier seems to wear.

In my district our DL tried to enforce it but no one adheres to it. A manager friend of mine goes in jeans and a blue CVS shirt, she does not care. I wear slacks, and sometimes wear a nice polo shirt, but for the most part I try not to because I tend to ruin my good clothes at work, so I wear a blue CVS shirt. Especially on truck day.

Is it actually required for men to wear a tie? My experience is where I am, not all men wear ties. Some just wear the blue cvs shirt. And not all women wear “Dress casual”. I have seen some wear yoga pants. I was under the impression that management at cvs didn’t have a universal dress code. Am I mistaken? I heard rumors a while back, that our DL was gonna crack down on dress code for everyone, (cashiers included) but nothing ever happened. I myself dress nicely for work, but not all managers do that. And if men are required to wear ties, then maybe women should be required to wear heels? After all the pendulum swings both ways. Or perhaps cvs might one day be like Walgreens management, at Walgreens managers both men and women wear the equivalent of a full suit... suit pants, dress shirt, tie, and vest, just no suit coat that I can see.
