Is there really life after UP?

I was hoping to get some experiences from laid of UP folks, of course, if writing about it doesn’t put salt on their wounds. How was it in the process of finding a new job? How hard was that period? Did you stay in the railroad sector or have you moved to another industry?

Dude seriously, this is the best the economy has been. There are tons of jobs just go get one. Flood the market with your resume and interview. Apply to one you want and ones your not qualified for. If you don’t think you will get the job go to the interview to work on you interview skills. Some of you act like your mom filled out you application to get this job. Just do it. In my best Bo JACKSON voice!

It's difficult to tell if questions like "Is there life after UP?" attest more to the sheer grip that UP has on the minds of their employees, or the lack of employment options that most UP employees (especially agreement) have available to them.

Obvious troll post. Yes there is life after UP. There is no life at UP.

Wasn't this question already asked like 2 or 3 times already?

The bad thing about where I live is it's pretty small town so everyone assumes you will go back to up so interviews are hard to come by

Again, up is the koolaid. Up loves to hear that you fear there is no world outside of UPlandia.

Its "The Village".

Once you stop drinking it. Youll realize there is something else

There is life after UP..
I put in applications for Mechanical everywhere..it took about 3 weeks before I actually started working somewhere, I would have liked railroad but none was available near me, I took a small cut in pay but worth it since I now work days with weekends off....I can tell you I hate that UP closed our yard, I worked there 15 years and am close to retirement age, I'm still not sure how that's all going to go, it felt like UP betrayed all of us....some guys are still struggling emotionally but are trying to move forward....Please hang in there , things will get better and it's nothing you did wrong, unemployment can help you with training for a new job and a better life.
