Knowledgeable HPC customers and observers know that losing the latest DOE deals was a significant
setback for IBM. This can’t be glossed over. They also know that IBM’s Power-based systems aren’t
setting the HPC world on fire. But company insiders reading an article like this might take it as a signal
that all is well and allow complacency to set it.
Losing these deals, plus the state of their HPC market share, should be a wake-up alarm for IBM, not a
snooze button.
