Thread regarding Southwestern Energy Co. layoffs

Raises or Layoffs

Had to post this as soon as I could. Just had a cup of coffee with my supervisor. She subtly asked would I forgo a raise to keep layoffs from happening. I said “No”. I need a raise with my new child. So a raise or layoff?

Well given the feedback that management got this week. Sounds like it will be layoffs again. People are betting they will not be laid off to get a raise. I am in that group. Willing to bet my paycheck that all my slacker co-workers get laid off before I do. Heck, bet our CEO gets to be a “retired executive” before I leave! #SWNing

I was asked the raise or layoff question by my supervisor today. Made me angry and I told him he should lay himself off. Should I just see myself out the door?

Not sure about this. But I think it’s layoffs. Did I just see a couple of folks from 4th floor given the pink slip? Anyone else see that?

Just got done having lunch. Two other people I had lunch with from different teams had the same question asked. Who thinks we are legit going to have to see no raises or layoffs? Will it happen sooner or later?

Performance is not an issue. We only have high performers left. Got rid of underperformers. Layoffs is all about your network.

Got out of a staff meeting just now and our supervisor had the audacity to ask for a show of hands who favored layoffs and who favored no raise. Most of us favored layoffs. Stunned.

It's pretty amazing how divisive this topic can be. I would absolutely forgo a raise if it meant seeing some of my colleagues avoid the axe, but then again I haven't had a raise in a while and you start missing them less. Seems absurd that laying off even a large percentage of the workforce would result in a meaningful reduction in G&A. There are plenty of more efficient ways to reduce expenditures in this business. All layoffs do is make remaining employees spread more thin. Thought performance was an issue before?

I’m sorry to say, but your more likely to get a pink slip than a raise. Good luck to you and your child.
