Amount to be paid question

My store had a no call no show so I went in for a hour until we got someone else to come in. Am I suppose to be paid for 3hours? I am in MA.

Here we go with misinformation and half truths amongst the rank and file.

If you were called in and agreed to cover 1 hour for someone then your employer is obligated to pay you one hour.

If you were scheduled for 1 hour for a meeting or training for example then your employer is obligated to pay (you guessed it) one hour.

If you were scheduled say 5 hours and after arriving the store closes after say 2 hours. Your employer is obligated to pay your states minimum reporting pay.

If you were scheduled say 8 hours and your manager called to tell you not to come in today. Your employer is not obligated to pay you.

You know, we have an HR department that has more reliable info than the BS on this board right? Each state also has rules for minimum reporting pay on their department of labor websites. It should also be posted in your break areas or where your store keeps fed/state posters.

Unless you are salaried you have to be paid any time you work by law. The manager must pay you for that time.

What law is that? And does that same law apply in New Jersey? I am a part time person, but have worked several 1 hour shifts to cover until someone came in. I am a shift supervisor.

Yes, unless the law has been changed, you have to be paid for at least 3 hours.
