Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

New Chief (fill in the blank) Officer

The creation of all these new executive posts are out of control. What’s the flavor of the month right now - Chief Sustainability Officer?? It’s sad, but it’s clear that this company has become a money grab for the gentleman at the top and their pals.

Will there be a new Chief named this week? Or not till next week and some more RIFs with it?

BD has created more positions that we have never seen or heard of before. At the same time he has brought McKinsey to consult and RIF. Why can't Senior Leadership and all the newly created Senior Leadership Positions handle that task when they are so concerned about expense reduction. They are a lot like State Workers that have no show positions but get a hefty pay check

This place is a circus. There will be RIFs somewhere each month this year. Is it coordinated? No. Letting go underperformers? Nope. Never mind our systems are so outdated the GEICO caveman could hack them. Nor that our revenues are down 20 percent from 2 years ago. If AIG was a person, it would have diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

But the cloud will solve everything...wait, AWS got hacked via an inside job, so never mind.

Since the start of the 2000s, a high-level corporate position has evolved that is still something of a mystery. As companies have engaged in more efforts around sustainability, environmental and otherwise, the "chief sustainability officer" has been created to champion and monitor these efforts.

But despite dozens of individuals in some of the world's largest companies taking on these duties, the role has been little studied. Just what are chief sustainability officers (CSO), where do they come from, and how much influence do they exert

I don't even care that much if we all get RIFed. Most of the people who work in my department, despite being nice enough, are pretty one-dimensional and uninspiring. We have these stale employees who are so bored that they actually feel the need to try and manage our building's security personnel on their routine walk arounds. Like..do they really feel that bored that they have to try and give orders to a contractor, hired by the building administrators?? They're not even AIG employees..

And why does the company keep hiring operational staff when there's clearly not enough work to go around? Why is everyone within the company afraid of employees who seek continued education? Why does management deny their employees the ability to take the online Agile Scrum courses that the company provided? Why do the most incompetent employees get a new promotional title without further compensation? And why does the company not provide annual pay raises to keep up with inflation? Lastly, why does this company not even consider internal interviewing for lateral movements within the company??? I mean, do they expect their employees to actually uphold traditional, corporate, values when they don't even care to develop their employees' careers?

Being asked why my productivity scores are shrinking, all the while ignoring the fact that the workload is shrinking and middle management isnt even innovative enough to come up with productive assignments to keep their employees busy. It's like every team has 1bperson doing everything while the rest of us are working on completely pointless b.s.

I get the Peter Principle...but damn. It shouldn't be THIS apparent.

Yes and they can't even accomplish anything on their own. With all the new executives and task teams they have formed, they still had the need to hire McKinsey to do their work and figure out who to RIF. What a waste of money. No wonder the working employee gets no raise, no pension and eventually RIF'd. Greed 100 and Greed 200 should be the name of the mission for this company
