Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Terrible Company to work for

I have been with the company for around a year and a month. In my short time with the bank Ive had three different managers, seen tons of layoffs and even got a promotion. In my first position I had no leadership which is something I desperately needed especially being fresh out of college. My team lead was degrading toward me in my first role that I had to get a new job once my year was up. I did in another department and sadly it has not been much better. I received no formal training, no policies or procedures. I still don't even have a name tag on my cubicle. This company is a toxic place to work and Im looking to get out as soon as possible. This company will never survive without the way others and competitors are advance and providing initiatives and incentives. I dread going to work and it really does feel like a morgue. I can't wait to see this place fail just people of how it treats its employees.

I made it less than a year with BNY and left on my own accord. I, like many of you, had multiple mangers (3 in 10 months), for the most part good co-workers along side a smattering of lazy, entitled, complacent 1di0ts. I’m 50 ’ish and had no trouble getting out of this he!!-h0le. Don’t sell yourself short if you’re a little older, the market is good. I didn’t go back into financials and will never do so. It’s a toxic culture although there still are a few good companies. I was a manger forced to rank 20% (not 10% as most are) BE primarily because my staff was entirely off-shore. My manager told me early in the year that I could only WFH two times a month which contradicted what HR/recruiter told me when I joined. The bonus amounts were also a joke, so much so that I gave my 30 days inside the bonus period so I didn’t get one. Fine by me, shove it up your a** BNY

Another warning, I guess.

I am no longer doing what I was hired for, either. I was a senior something then lead something, became the manager of somethings due to layoffs and reorg, now manager of something else due to more layoffs and another reorg.

I had no choice where I wound up. I cannot even mentor the people that I manage. And I could get laid off or re-assigned with their next purge and reorg.

Sound familiar?

Not to one up you here, but been here less than a 9 months and had five managers and four jobs since I started. All lives were not by choice. Not doing remotely what I was hired to do. Literally took my “square peg” of skills and am trying to smash it in to a “round holed” position. I can’t wait to get out of here. Toxic place to work is an understatement. Wish I had something lined up already. Can’t wait to get out.

BNYM has created a very toxic environment for it’s people. Their bad policies and constant layoffs are trouble for everyone. Workers resent fellow workers, and everyone resents managers. This is trouble for everyone. Even the Company, since productivity suffers too.

May as well post this as a warning to new employees, and an explanation for not-so-new employees.

Existing employees might resent (cheap) newbies that replace (expensive) good people - and often friends - that have been laid off. We resented offshore people too, although we found them to often be smart, friendly co-workers. Hopefully, your situation will improve when you are no longer the “new” person.

And if you last long enough, you may find yourself having the same experience as the people that resented you.

This could happen anywhere, but it is SURE to happen at BNY.

Good luck!

People here for 20+ years feel the same way. Not that easy to leave when you’re older and have home/family obligations. Get out when you can.
