Thread regarding Big Lots Inc. layoffs

tossed aside

After years with the company I was called into an office and told over the phone that they had restructured the stores and that my job no longer existed. I was to turn in my keys and talk to no one in the store about it. No Thank you for my years of service, and no thank you for all the times I found I had to work from open to close at the last minute. They should at least have the decency to have someone speak to you in person, shake your hand, and express some gratitude.
Once they got a consulting firm involved with the company everything went downhill. How is it their competition, Ollie's, is growing and Big lots is laying people off and getting ready to close some stores? Was it possibly because Ollie's wasn't dumb enough to spend millions on a consulting firm? And they are still trying to transform stores to their "store of the future" concept, which they are running out of money for.

The one thing that I am happy to read is that this is a shared experince. Same here, laid off over the phone while i was opening the store. Told that my position was eliminated, then later in the day filled with an atl. Yes this was the worst place that i have ever worked at!!!! Terribly run company.

Cooperate executives are getting car allowances, fat offices, zero deductible health care and big pay checks. Stores associates no hours or very little pay and incentives. Company culture going to sh–. CEO Thorn needs consultants to tell him what to do. Insider info is consulting company called BCG is pulling the strings so Bruce can be on the job training and collect his CEO salary. If David Campisi was still CEO, today would be a different company. People say Bruce is a bully and executive team is scared to death to talk to him. It seems that’s what happened to ex CFO who was forced out by CEO.

They most likely are going under making drastic moves like this. Look at it this way...when the others are scrambling all at the same time to find jobs you will already be at one settled in. My spouse was about 15 years and lost his. I'm still part time stuck there.

Predictions are they’ll be out of business in 2 years. I too was let go Monday. My DM tried to reach my by phone on the way in .... who does this ?... I still had keys to the store. They gave us some “honey” in the earlier part of the year by closing stores on Sunday’s at 8 pm... then made it clear the GO weren’t getting their bonuses which resulted in a lock down in April. And my pitifully.21 raise was much less than some of the other general associates

I've been a manager with this company for years and it is one of the worst jobs i've ever had. Favortism runs rampid in this company. My position was eliminated Monday, no warning and no thank you for the years I gave them. District Manager just hung up the phone. Don't be surprised if you see a bankruptcy coming soon
