Lowe’s Business Resource Groups

Everyone is talking about the cuts, but nothing about this email. What are your thoughts on it?

Team,

Associate Engagement is a critical component on our strategy. I believe BRGs Will help us to embody our core behaviors: focus on our customers, deliver results, take action, show courage, continue learning, and allow us to grow personally and professionally. When associates feel included, respected and engaged, performance in overall business improves.

The BRGs are executive sponsored and associate-led groups focused on creating an inclusive culture. Beginning today(Tuesday) we will launch the first four BRGs: Women, Veteran, Black(inclusive of African American, Caribbean and others of African heritage) and Latino. Later this year, we’ll launch additional BRGs for LGBTQ, disabilities and Asian/Pacific. In 2020, we will add a Multi-generational group that bring together associates across age groups.

These groups will be led nationally by a team of corporate and field leaders and all associates are invited to become members. BRGs will be a place for you to share your diverse perspective and background. Also, a great opportunity for you to be an ally, collaborate, network, innovate, learn, and teach.

Lowe’s is “All in” on fostering a culture that allows everyone to bring their best self to work each day. Are you in? If so, you can join here(link provided in email)

I'm not White, but I cringed when I read this email. It is excluding white men. It's terribly wrong to go this path and if there wasn't division in your store, well there it starts. Why wasn't more thought put into this new program before they rolled it out. Really, it shouldn't exist!

What the hell does this nonsense have to do with retail? Just more corporate nonsense. This is a retail company that should be run by people who have actually really worked in retail, meaning the stores actually helping customers. All employees from CEO down should be on the floor working in the isles helping customers at least one day a week, just show up to a random store and work, no prior warning.

Sounds like someone is trying to divide people up into different interest groups instead of uniting them. Not a fan of this at all.

Exactly!

I think Marvin has an “unconscious bias” against white men. White women can join the women’s group. Unless you are a veteran white men are excluded. What about Native Americans? They too are being excluded.

I like how he says “when associates feel included, respected, and engaged, performance in overall business improves.” This is all about making us do more with less and has nothing to do with making your voice heard. Don’t be fooled; it’s more of more for Marvin and less for us.

Marvin seems to have forgotten there are no cash registers at corporate and you either serve customers or serve those that serve customers.

What about white people? Seems racist to me. Always finding ways to include everyone and group under the sun, while excluding whites.

Call me what you will, but you can't deny the facts.
