Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Assembler elimination wrong

That Lowes is doing away with in-store assemblers doesn't surprise me. But, I agree with a previous statement, no one will be available for repairs or on-the-spot customer requests. Of course, that's a moot point.......it's all about the bottom line and pleasing the investors. I used to be the lead assembler at the busiest store in our area. I never completely agreed with how my job was handled by store management. Every time a change was made by a dept. manager, or ANY manager that my job fell under control of, each wanted things done differently and that was a pain in the a–! One of the Asst. Managers even changed the location of my work area and moved it to a spot that was in the way of everything! My main problem was having to wait for mgt. to come unlock the "bullpen" for access to lawnmowers. Nothing but wasted time. I made suggestions that fell on deaf ears as a result of the "powers-that-be" sitting behind their desks miles away from the store, made the rules that THEY wanted in place. To hell with the fact that they were useless and caused more problems than solving them. Lowes used to be a force to be reckoned with but now are only a "Home Depot wannabe".........Sad

The assembler at the Lowe's I work at has been there since the store opened. He worked 13 or 14 years. Given same day notice he didn't have a job and two whole weeks pay. Way to go Lowe's you S— 😜

Yes ,again short thinking by the corporate gurus. In the search for the mantra for lower operating cost-they put people out the door who took pride in the job and were an asset to the company . The same people who pushed through the six day work weeks and every weekend and holiday.
You did good things by hiring veterans who were struggling and they were good workman and represented the company honorably . Yet, in the name of reduced cost and efficiencies, you have made a business decision that will cost you more in the long run
I guess I can sum it up in a few words,"different day same b—s—

Looked up one of the outside service companies.
They hire you as a subcontractor at a piece rate.
This means, in most cases, you are responsible for paying your own withholding and social security. No benefits either.

Minimum 72 Hours to get your product assembled, maybe more in the off season, looks like my cousin in the orange store will getting more business. So much for Marvins plan to overtake, or should I say to help out Home Depot grow over lowes.

I was one of the eliminated FSAs. One and only. I was janitorial/custodial/maintenance/delivery/stocker/unloader/cashier/loader/door-opener/vendor wrangler/grounds-keeper/assembler/ambulance,,,
I was all that and much more before the position was created. I would take another position at the store because my store manager and market manager REALLY wants me in the store. I can trust the managers that I have the highest regard for but I can't work for that lying thief Marvin Ellis.

I was one of the eliminated assemblers. One of two in the store. There was not a day went by that delivery or management was wanting something right now because the customer was complaining
Or the cashier had not entered assembly required or a Sterling or internet order.
Customers are now going to want to wait. Also, when the 3rd party comes in who is going to pull the orders. Where are all the assembled orders going to be stored without damage. Who is going to repair customers concerns.
This as well as the FSA was conceived by an ignorant corporate person

I've been told to expect a 10 - 14 day lead time with the outside "service."
