Thread regarding Chesapeake Energy Corp. layoffs

The light at the end of the tunnel is a... TRAIN!

It's been dark day at Chesapeake people are dropping like flies. DL has been leading us through capital discipline, pointing at an ever distant light saying "free cash flow in just two more years". But then in the earnings call you hear the rest of the story, in 2yrs we could be out of rock to drill in the PRB and the EF.

We will be cash flow positive because our capital expenditures will be next to nothing, because there is nothing left to spend on. About the time our production depletes our debts mature. We will owe $11-12B, and have 2 little rocks to stand on, Brazos and Marcellus, which will be mostly used up. There will be no assets left to sell.

Its time (or maybe it's too late) we learn what AMC always new, the money is made in geology and land. Take your real best assets (you're people) and empower them to find value. If there are no major oil discoveries left in North America then let's go where we can still find oil and gas. If World market condition are unfavorable let look for micro economics. Surely someone wants to build a gas power plant where there is no pipeline. If there is anybody in the world that can find and produce gas in sh–ty rock its us! It's kind of our speciality.

The concept is simple find somebody that needs what we have and sell it to them. We sure as hell aren't going to make it by borrowing and drilling.

“ I know I am a long way from giving up on CHK!”

  • well someone found the last half gallon of Kool Aid! Admirable, but not very smart. The same dumb–ses that drove you in the ditch are still driving. Time for a new driver.

The ones who built CHK aren't all working for other companies or dead. Some of us are retired, or semi-retired, and watching this combination roller coaster/merry-go-round. We help build the company, discovered the plays, transitioned from vertical prospecting to resource plays. And we understood the economics of a well or play. We know that one decent well won't carry 10 dogs. And we know when a play isn't working. BTW, stop drilling Hunton and Oswego laterals (yeah, we're watching). Good luck to you all. Remember, to the guy looking for a job, your job looks pretty good.

The people who built what you once had are working at other companies now or dead. What you have left are people with no experience, small salaries, or great racks. No one with other options would choose to work there. I know it’s hard to fathom, but CHK is no longer relevant in any industry or any state. We are irrelevant.

Exactly. It is time to make a change and then do what we do best! All the negative talk does nothing but lower moral. You hit the nail on the head that our best asset is our people, it is who built what we once had and now it is in our hands to fight to come back stronger or give up.

We need to change our attitudes, change how we have done the things that got us i this slump and come back even stronger! If everyone buckled down and went the extra mile you would be amazed at where we could be in one year. When times get tough, the tough get going! I know I am a long way from giving up on CHK!
