Thread regarding Dean Foods Co. layoffs

What will happen to this company now?

so, does this mean that Deans foods will no longer be in Dollar Generals. That is crazy. This is the bulk of most routes in Ky. Dollar Generals are every 5 miles. The men have worked sat to please this com many, with 6 day deliveries. What will happen to this company now. Ralph came in and uprooted the life of thousands of men re-organizing routes, with loss of work hours taking men to 4 days a week, now we have to start all over again! Unless there are large acts we will be a Skelton crew with only small stops. What is going to happen in the future with this company, either we expand into perishable items , dairy an other products or we shut the doors. Thats a hard pill to swallow , where do you find a 65,000 a yr job now days. Very co corned for my family and my future, I stand to lose everything I have worked years to build.

Good questions and comments from @10j7M4YK-6bsc.

Good thing the Walmart plant isn't very operational or else we'd be in even worse shape. And to think the threat of another WM plant was a huge risk. Turns out they can't even operate one. Thank goodness for the government's milk buying.

DF just let competition pick 'em off for quite a while. Like a fish in a bowl. They don't seem to have aggressive senior salespeople going after new business, just trying to retain what they have.

You quit DF 4 years ago and you are on the DF lay-off website checking up? That’s pathetic man...I feel bad for you. Take care of yourself

LOL....yeah, thinking $65K is too much for a driver just shows you don't have a clue about the market for drivers right now. Even when the demand for drivers wasn't what it is right now, at some DF locations it used to be common to pay for new employees to get their CDL and then for those employees to leave after getting 2 years of driving experience for a lot more money (might still be common, but I left DF 4 years ago). DF definitely over pays for a lot of other positions, but they have to in order to get anyone to work for them. Drivers and most plant and warehouse employees definitely not on that overpaid list though.

If Saputo said no thanks, that’s all we really need to know. They ran numbers and realized it wasn’t even worth buying the company for next to nothing to even sell off something that actually makes money (because there isn’t one).

Yeah companies that are profitable pay their drivers’ good money because they make PROFIT, they aren’t losing money every quarter genius.

Dollar General is 140+ per share. DF is at $1 per share...see where this is going?

Milk is a commodity...we aren’t making an iPad and selling it for 85% margin.

If you’re worried about your family...time to start looking now. The earnings spell out the future loud and clear...dwindling market with no room for a name brand label that nobody wants because milk is milk. 5 point purity promise doesn’t mean snap.

Have you paid any attention to how hard it is to find drivers today??? Sign on bonuses around 5000-8000 dollars to find a driver at other companies. And you think 65000 is too much??? Additionally, god only knows how many hours this person is having to work in overtime to even make that. Our drivers leave left and right because of the nonsense they have to deal within dean foods and then at the locations they stop at. Most of the places they drop at treat them like dogs. Think before you comment.

So from my understanding...DF is losing business right and left and getting burned because we can’t play in the private label business...and even if we did, we would be making pennies.

So what new work are you talking about exactly?

They pay you $65K a year to be a driver? No wonder this company can’t hit an earnings report.
