Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Macy's Technology didn't lay off anyone with a Form I-140, immigrant petition of an alien worker

For it's layoffs last month, Macy's Technology seemed to consider what type of visa employees had, and no one with a Form 1-140 or a visa that would put their status in the US in danger, was let go.

"Managers have too much power ..."

I have experienced it first hand and I am truly delighted that San Francisco is being trimmed down ruthlessly by the new CTO. I feel San Francisco should just become a satellite office with less than 200 full time employees (everyone else should be contractors).

Their hiring and promotion practices should be investigated. Managers have too much power and can hire someone even if their interviewers all give thumbs down. This happens frequently! HR has no control of anything. Many of these people are all talk, no work. Can use buzzwords in every sentence and give a super confident and dominant impression, but all the work is shoved on a contractor or non-Indian who isn’t allowed to represent their work in meetings or to higher ups. One story was of a contractor who did all the work of a project and then was explicitly told to not say that he had done it. Instead, the manager will give credit to this other guy who actually knows nothing and is incapable of doing anything, but will get promoted unethically.

Are you kidding me? Macy's Technology is FLOODED with Indian contractors. They are going to s— every last DROP out of the company. It's taking 6 months to get done something that could be done in 1 month because of things like time differences, offshore people not giving a Sh– about quality, things not working, unskilled workers, cost cutting leaders and management that wants to outsource everything to the lowest bidder.
It's a damn shame that the company started using so much outsourcing. They will hire 10 contractors to do the job of 1 employee and accomplish 1/10th the amount of work.
Indians only hire indians. The company is done for.

Probably due to racism as well. Anyone see Macy's stock today? In the toliet. Macy's systems and Technology layoffs have targeted mostly senior citizens. People with the company for 30 years or longer. Very sad. Outsourcing to Ncr and other companies. Macys has lost their steam and will not gain it back. Those left should be looking for other employment.

I'm curious about the two replies that disappeared from this topic. One was kind of racist, but the other raised legitimate concerns about hiring practices, which are reflected in the demographics of Macy's Tech's largely Indian composition. Does anyone know why that second one might have been deleted?

There is enough on this site where they should be investigated for age discrimination when laying off . They even have hiring events after the impacted positions are gone. Eliminating required positions, then putting in a new hire who will cost them less into the position they reinstated because it's a necessary part of the wheel . Very shameful , now I see this . The age discrimination would be hard to prove, but it sure sounds like they would have some explaining to do in this instance.
