Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Say it with me. Nobody is safe!

Check out this link below. I wanted to post the article but it was just a video. They are opening more Sam's Club Now stores. This is what they're going to force clubs into. If you think things will change for the better, these raises will last, or all the other nonsense everyone keeps wishing for well it's not going to happen.

It has nothing to do with business knowledge. It's a prediction. That's all it is. Five years could actually be seven, but I'll go as high as ten on that. No way Walmart keeps them all open beyond ten. If I had a million dollars to hedge on that bet, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

All 600 Sam's will eventually be gone. It ain't fearmongering either. I'll make the same prediction for a lot of other companies as well. Best Buy. Office Depot. Belk. Barnes & Noble. Kohl's. The list will be endless.

If you aren't able to see retail brick and mortar disappearing in the years to come, at a rate that boggles the mind, you're not looking hard enough.

I agree that Sam's will not close but there will definitely be few & fewer in the coming years. They cannot compete with Costco so I wouldn't be surprised if clubs nearest in proximity to a Costco would be some to close in the future along with some more of the older buildings.
That said, their grasping at so much change so quick, it may bite them harder than they expect. Especially so much mistreatment and elimination of long term, hard working associates. Work force today has no loyalty or strong work ethics. Will be an every changing revolving door of associates.

Sam's sales last year was 57.8 billion dollars with profit of 1.5 billion dollars no company is going to close posting those types of numbers store's that do not perform will be closed and just like all american company's right now positions will get eliminated because of advancement's in technology to make a prediction that all 600 stores will close in 5 years show's your lack of business knowledge stop your fear mongering.

The future of Sam's Club is nothing. Gone. Zero. All six hundred stores shuttered and empty. Relegated to conversations that begin with, "Whatever happened to.....?"

Five years. Probably less than that for the ones that are struggling to make budgets in markets that are oversaturated and also have a Costco kicking their a$$es nearby. Little by little they will close and then one day the announcement will come from the parent company that whatever is left will be closed. Just another chain of stores wiped out due to changing times and rapidly dying business models.

The changes we see from within over the last couple years are a response to how much shopping on the internet is affecting brick and mortar business. Fewer and fewer shoppers translates to fewer and fewer employees needed and job descriptions constantly being modified to include more responsibilities.

If what is going on inside these stores doesn't scare you, then you're either a complete id–t, or you don't really care to begin with. Or maybe you have bigger plans and this is just a job to tide you over till you're ready to take the next step. Good for you if that is the case.

Personally, I don't care. I'm long past the stage where being emotionally tied to my position or place of employment is possible. I know it all ends with a separation of some nature and I'll either see it coming and jump ship or I won't and they'll throw me off. It doesn't matter anymore. Performance is of little value under these circumstances.

Walmart isn't going to get stuck with all this, folks. The company has bigger fish to fry than continuing to invest in several hundred stores that no longer fit into the grand scheme of things. They know the future is wherever Amazon is headed and they're following that path and part of remaining on the path and keeping up sometimes means shedding dead weight that threatens to slow you down.

Sam's Club is the dead weight.

@1isu.... really? Quit putting the fear factor into everything? Sam's has done just that for the past 7 years +. It is now run through fear instead of knowledge, know how and strong skilled leaders.
It takes nothing to be able to lie, cheat and belittle others just to get ahead. We have CM's, market managers, regionals etc here in CA that lead entirely through their own fear of being "found out" how little the actually know or care about our business let alone the people that do the work. They have the wool pulled over their fellow male dominated counterparts and the females that just follow along to be able to be a part of the gentleman's club. This MM walks into clubs and berates & belittles assistants and CM's. A female leader asks him legitimate business questions and he just brushes them off with no answer just like the guy before him. They both didn't know and wouldn't want a female leader knowing more than they do. Boy are they good at "talking" a good talk to their bros that just pat each other on the back.
It's the good ole boys club again.

Hey @1isu, you need to chill. I doubt very seriously that stores w/o cashiers will work everywhere. People still want to be waited on.

And as far as getting rid of positions like PTC, they may have eliminated the FT person, but our club has someone in PTC. The management is playing a shell game w/personnel. In fact our FT personnel person was asked to stay and they would have job coded this person into another spot while still using them in PTC. The associated decided to take the severance instead.

@1isu keep up with the wishful thinking. It's getting everyone nowhere. If you can't look at all the signs and see what your future is with this company then you need professional help. They are not "trying it out". They are forcing it on everyone just like scan n go, self checkout, just like doing without PTC and many other positions. All of it is going to be the future. Including these stores. It doesn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together. Wake up already.

Yes. Been sayin this for 8 months. It IS Sam's future. Be smart. Leave now as there are many jobs out there. You never know what will be available later. They don't deserve any human beings loyalty.
