In my almost 20 years with CWA, I have never voted yes on a contract. Progressively the contracts get worse and yet somehow they always pass. It's a sad fact when after almost 20 years I make less money than I did 10 years ago. I hate to say it but I feel like the Union sold this contract as if we don't take it it's only going to get worse, fear factored many people I'm sure. We pay our Union to "guarantee" our wages and benefits and now we don't even have that. When I started health insurance was free for the employee, when I got married it was $75 a month for my spouse, started a family and it was like $150 per month and now it is over $700 per month. Unions can't stay strong when the workers don't stick together.
Everyone that is complaining about a garbage contract where were you when it was time to vote? This should have been easily voted down and could have sent a message to the company, the union and the bargaining committee that we deserve better and to go back to the table or see you in March 2020. Can’t blame anyone but yourself if you voted yes thinking we couldn’t get more or not even voting at all!
Copper will be Embarq and CTL will walk away with the fiber. Then they drive it off of a cliff
Now that the contract has passed, the interesting part now will be to see what they've had up their sleeves this whole time. The company has a grand plan and they needed this contract to make it work. Let the show begin...
You want to know who they sold this too, had a conversation with a young tech today who said it passed, he said he voted yes because he is young doesn't have health concerns and wants the money now while he trains to move on to a better place.
Even with these raises we are making less then the Non Represented techs at top end and less then AT&T techs in the same title since many have said they are the one's possibly thinking about buying the copper side.
In 2021 when they raise the premiums 20 percent all these people that voted yes are going to scream how can they do that. The reason is you told them they could.
This is also a indication the Union has rolled over, they used that we get to keep what we had except controlling your medical benefits. 26,000 can get a better deal. Well watch as that 26,000 total employees gets widdled down to 15,000 or less. Remember we used to be 185,000 Employees and like 80,000 represented. That's just in the Legacy Qwest/ US West area, not including Sprint Embarq, and CTL.
I want to know what the CWA got as a Bonus for settlement. Oh and your dues are going up also by about 10 percent over three years so you have this quality negotiation team there for you.
Almost 9 months till we see our raises but the medical kicks in January, time table of things are not in our favor and then the movement of the date AGAIN.
Just wanting to know if we are changing their sheets and scrubbing the toilets also.
Would have gotten the same without the union and saved money each month and layoffs are by what you do : productivity, attendance knowledge, not only seniority
sign me up now
If you don't like or want your job quit. I know a few laid off Tech's that would take it.
Wake up you'll never strike in numbers large enough to make any difference. Even the GREAT AT&T found that out, and they went out in several states !!! CTL will NEVER do that .....i know in Florida they wont. They huffed and the puffed last contract, and then they rolled over and we got c-ap !! Face it........people been telling you the last years its coming to an end,,,,technology is set to swallow the industry, just like word processing swallowed an entire typewriter industry , just like Trivago and Kayak are swallowing the travel agent industry to name 2
Good for you guys! Now go to work.
“Every time we keep giving in, we are only setting ourselves up for a worse contract 3 years from now.”
The problem is that this may have been the last contract you will ever see. Now that you lost the power to negotiate benefits, the union can try and negotiate pay, but whatever the union asks for, the company will just raise the premiums higher. And you are right, the union may not survive due to its members not preparing for a conflict and living paycheck to paycheck.
It's unfortunate that we are leading ourselves into the great unknown. They hooked everyone with a decent 2020 but what happens in 2021 when our rates skyrocket? I know nobody wants to go without pay for any amount of time, but come on, we all know every three years this is coming. Stop living beyond your means and screwing the rest of us! Plan for it. Every time we keep giving in, we are only setting ourselves up for a worse contract 3 years from now.
A union is only as strong as its members so no thanks to the 64%
We asked for it and now we are gonna get it!!
