Fuji Xerox starts to distance from Xerox

https://news.abs-cbn.com/business/09/19/19/stop-using-xerox-when-you-mean-copy-japanese-firm-tells-public-in-philippines

Only logical reason Fuji Xerox would start pushing people to not associate the word Xerox with copying would be Fuji knows they will not be associated with Xerox soon. Between this act and the start of the Xerox/HP manufacturing agreement, you can anticipate in only a matter of time we will officially be HP Xerox.

They have to this legally. If you don't assert ownership of your trademark the government has the right to revoke it. At least that's how it works in the U.S. Adobe, Xerox, Kleenex, etc. all do this on a regular basis. This hs nothing to do with the current legal battles.

@1djn

Those are independent copy shops in the Philippians, not the company Xerox.

That's so dumb. If anything, you'd want people using your name for brand recognition and awareness. This just puts a bad taste in people's mouths about the Xerox name. Dumb move on their part. Oh well.

Wow. Eye opener. Xerox is willing to transfer 1000’s of job’s from Europe and USA to a country that doesn’t even sell our product.

It's distancing from every other brand.

I've visited the Philippines/ SE Asia. Every Xerox advertised shop is filled with anything but.

Xerox did the same campaign many years ago to protect our trademark.
