DID YOU STILL HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR EMAIL AFTER NOTIFICATION THAT YOUR POSITION WAS BEING ELIMINATED BUT BEFORE YOUR TERMINATION DATE?

Allstate leased the vehicle through Donlen. Donlen was delayed on picking up the vehicle and eventually came and got it at my house. Let’s just say I cut a lot of people off and breaker checked them in the Allstate vehicle!!!! Hahahahaha

Yeah, I’ve heard stories like that. Amazing. Did they ask you for it or make arrangements to get it by your last day ?

When I was laid off as a field adjuster, I kept the Allstate car past my official last day with the company. I even drove the Allstate car to my new place of employment for approx 3 weeks!

I’m an ex-employee, but also a shareholder, and in that capacity I’m concerned (appalled) that you were “sent home and told not to work”, while you were being paid. Simply saying I never heard of it, and question why. There is a code of conduct with respect to what you do on a company issued laptop, and if you’re following the rules, you can’t be “entrapped”. Turn it off, and throw it in the corner for 30 days. Leadership is negligent for sending you home with it if you’re not working. Take your laptop, disable all access including building key cards, and be done with it.

I don’t appreciate the tone of the last comment. I’ve been honest about what transpired and was looking to see what others had experienced. I was in good standing. I was given a termination date which was 30 days in the future, told not to work but sent home with my laptop with access to email. That is why I used the word “entrapment” because that is exactly how it feels

This sounds very different than a normal reduction in force. Normally, the company notifies the employee, provides a termination date, and (assuming the employee is in good standing), the employee works through the term date, which includes access to email. I’ve never heard of an employee being sent home, with access to Allstate’s systems, and told not to work. There’s something you’re not disclosing, and the “entrapment “ reference suggests this isn’t a normal reduction in force.

Thanks for the responses. I didn’t need continued access to my Allstate email in order to communicate with HR. They communicated with me via my personal email account. I don’t see any business reason for them to have left my Allstate email active except to try to entrap me.

Just a guess... Your email access will prove useful for any future communications with HR (i.e. Skype calls).

That is a highly unusual scenario, which I’ve never heard of. Either you’re an active employee on the payroll (in which case, I’d expect you to perform your job until the day you leave), or you’re not, in which case you turn in all your equipment, including laptop. Is there something we’re not hearing ?
As a shareholder, this disturbs me.

Thanks for the responses. I didn’t mean to yell. I was told position was being eliminated and was sent home with laptop but told not to work. Given that scenario I’m not certain why they still granted me email access but shut everything else down.

Yes, you should still have access to the Allstate network (your email) between the notice of job elimination and the actual termination date. At least that's how it works in Northbrook. However, the notice of job elimination and the termination date can be the same date (this has happened in Northbrook as well).

Notice of job elimination and notice of termination are two different scenarios.
Typically, Allstate will allow you to look for other jobs within if your job is being eliminated.

You have access to email as long as you’re working. You sort of need to it to do your job. What kind of a question is that ?

Why are you yelling ?
