Get real. Your manager is not going to tell you about any upcoming RIFs, even if they know. Act on your own instincts, skills and needs. FFS. Make something happen for yourself and stop asking permission. If things are getting weird in your dept, consider it a sign to move on.
I am in the Finance group. I specifically asked manager if any RIFs. Answer was no, however they expect reduction of headcount with natural attrition and will not backfill any positions.
These days most big companies like Oracle outsource their finance departments to cheaper overseas locations: it’s part of cutting cost program.
