All of the Kmart stores in Hawaii have closed.
The Aussies want the name globally. They were at HE a couple months ago. They did purchase the rights to the name in Australia a few years back for big money (check Wikipedia) . Makes perfect sense they want to buy the name here but not the stores or maybe only a handful.
If you search the lay-off some guy from HE was talking about them being here for a meeting. They definitely want the Guam and Hawaii stores. They’re pretty profitable they also own target in australia.
Wesfarmers (owners of Australian KMart and Australian Target) are coming into the US on their own with Anko stores (they’re already growing in Seattle, and ship nationwide). They would only buy Kmart for the global IP, but not to resurrect the brand outside of New Zealand and Australia.

Clothing for any remaining Kmarts will be totally combined with any remaining full line Sears. Sears hardlines will be combined with hometown. I’d imagine if any Kmarts are left they’d get any spillover hardlines too.
Unlikely that Kmart Australia would acquire mainland stores as they are decrepit and barely maintained. They might acquire name rights once all U.S. Kmarts are shuttered. With 50-80 remaining Kmart stores in 2020, the Kmart side has no real buying power to continue to be a going concern.
