Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

This model can't last forever

This is late stage action. They don't see a good enough return to invest back in the business or to invest in future business. They don't see big enough markets to go after or see it as too much work. They do buybacks to keep stock up - for the big institutional WS guys - they love this - instant gratification. It is called "taking cash out" of the business. (The IBM model. Can't last forever.) All WS cares about is stock price and cash. Like the dog and pony show today with earnings - just to give WS guys something good to talk about. They just need a good story to tell the big funds to keep them in Hon stock.

@11zmtkpf-1ojf makes a really good point.

Westinghouse tried to be like GE and they went broke. If you see the circle-bar-W brand anywhere it was spun off or licensed (hate to see the logo on junk at Home Depot). Allied tried to be GE and had to buy HW to continue their business model. GE was GE and we know what is happening to them. Now new HW is going down the same path. Are there any companies that this model has worked for?? Seems to be good for executives and stock holders short term.

Publicly traded companies are focused on their shareholders and providing a return on their investment over the very short term. As soon as they see a few cracks in the foundation - inability to keep earnings going with cuts or no new stories coming their way they will dumb and run to the next great idea. Noting lasts forever and Hon is tied more and more to WS, not tied to customers and products. What new products? Software? What software?

You are completely correct. The business is moving on to different products. What action will you take?

You mean publicly traded companies are focused on their shareholders and providing a return on their investment? That is what they are supposed to do.
