Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Putting the cart before the horse and then tying it's legs together...

That's how this company's top leadership will continue to run these stores. Three hours after we close with four or five people zoning the entire store, then stocking paper, restaurant supply, water, juice, soda, pet food, detergent, pods, end caps, and dropping as much freight for the opening crew as we can - hoping we don't miss too many items and focusing mainly on holes and stuff that's very close to being holes. Then three hours for the five or six openers to stock it all, clean up, and put away whatever is left. Behind the scenes at night, you have one person in receiving dealing with unloading the DCs and also handling the frozen/dairy, paper, water, and coke. At least one DC has to be put away per night and one stacked on the dock. Maybe the day receiver has enough time to put it away and maybe only part of it. More often than not, they'll have water, paper, bread deliveries, McLane, and various other things keeping them busy. Most days freight is run out and put away with spotters. Consolidated pallets and clothing go virtually ignored and sit on the dock for days with only the consolidated stuff getting worked when time allows or when crisis mode kicks in and HBA starts to look bare. The dock has dozens and dozens of pallets of unworked clothing and at least ten or more pallets of consolidated that haven't even been touched. There's probably at least that much candy and office supply from McLane buried within all that, too. And even on top of all that there are pallets of tires, display pallets, and god only knows what else lying beneath the ever growing mountain of sh– back there. You could fill two 53' trailers with all this stuff and still have c-ap lying around. If this were 2008 and a dock looked like this, there would be hell to pay. Hell, why not throw in the debacle that is the freezers, too, while we're at it? Or a parking lot with cart stalls that are overflowing, until they pull, "all available associates", outside to empty them out which in turn forces the floor to be neglected. Under our current corporate geniuses, this is the new normal and it's going on everywhere. Jesus f—ing christ....is this how bad you have to allow things to get just to keep your payroll down. If I had the necessary funds, I'd go around the country taking pictures and send them in to corporate, with club numbers. Hell, I'd start a website and put them all up on there so everyone could see what reducing payroll and f—ing up the hiring process with a Mickey Mouse operation like Workday looks like. Screw this company and screw these ignorant, "leaders", we have. You can't get new people because no one in their right mind wants to work for this company except those who are desperate for a job. Then they are interviewed, received job offers because all one needs is a pulse, and then it takes three or four weeks to bring them in to start. By then, most don't bother and have wound up somewhere else. For f— sake, this is obviously their intention. It can't all be stupidity. They whip out the knife and keep cutting till they finally reach the bone, then they go out to the shed and grab the saw. Whatever way they can cripple us more just to save money, they'll pursue it till they finally have no choice but to turn their axes on each other.

I think Sam's has a plan to go completely either order on line and pick up or self serve serve and cashless. There will only be workers stocking shelves and doing maintenance. They want people to get used to that for the future. If it works then Sam's survives. We shall see.

@4aer. Amen to that. About 15 yrs ago, my mentor, rest his soul, who had gotten me in to Sam's, said he wouldn't be surprised if this company goes under in about 20 yrs. After all Kmart was already in a free fall. K-MART.
Whouda think that. Look back over about 60 or 70 yrs. It's just a cycle apparently.

The Company has lost all respect for the Individual ...They don't practice the 3 Basic Beliefs. All they care about is Profit but screw your People in the process. The Management Team is over worked and definitely under paid. The Leads make more than the Management Team. The minute Mr. Sam Walton was laid to rest there was a big change towards the Associates...and it gets worse every Year. With the Billions of $$ this Company makes it still has it's Management Team making Pennies with much more Reponsibilities. Some Managers are working 2 or more Managers positions. Take care of your People and your People will take care of you...Don't ever think this Company can't fall just like all the others that's been around for a long time. Listen to your People more. I use to be proud to say I work for this Company...but not anymore.

At my club we run lifts on the floor till 9 or 10am every day without spotters to get done. Even with the GM walking around. 0 F’s given.

A typical Sam's Club right now. Let's talk about cuts; no more in the Clubs, they want to cut the fat then they need to start at the top. How many VP's, etc. does it take, how much are their salaries? Furner's base salary in 2017 was $780,000 according to his contract with yearly adjustments. I would bet the yearly adjustment is a lot more than the 2% we get. Do you realize his base in 2017 is more than twenty team leads current yearly salary? If a new leader would step up and start cutting from the top, working toward a common goal of making this company great again, they would gain respect from the associates, revive the pride to work for Sam's Club, then watch our stock prices increase at an impressive rate.

Something is going to break and soon. If November doesn't do it, December will.

You should start an anonymous website and let Walmart and Sam’s associates send in pictures. Put ads on it to make money.

Holy c-ap. Every single thing you are saying is true of my club too. Except we usually have half the people on both shifts and half of them are pulling orders.

Sounds like you need better people. Or maybe start fixing things rather than groaning about how hard life is

You took the words right out of my mouth! This company is so poorly managed right now.. as long as we keep getting the work done they are not going to change anything . Everyone is miserable, including management. Yeah yeah yeah I know we all need to be happy we have jobs, but I would love to find one that isn’t trying to k–l me !

Unfortunately we keep getting the work done so they will just keep addng more work and cutting more payroll to see if the work can still get done. It's not going to end until accidents and injuries start cutting into profits.

lol, I see someone is venting but I COMPLETLY understand where your coming from! We have a manager who likes to tell us we need a sense of "Urgency". My feeling on that is why?!?!?, so we can rush from one job to the next?!?! Come on Corporate show us some type of leadership besides cut, cut, cut cut!!
