Who has been threatened by a member?

Before the change, we were behind a desk and take a could take a couple steps back. Now that we are side by side with members, how do we handle the threats? There is no place to go, no barrier between us and the member. No where the member can't reach us.

Threats from members do happen. I've seen it often. Only once for me, but others, in the store where I work, have been threatened more so than I would care to have happen. Members have threaten to shoot us or "reach across the desk and slap," us.

This close proximity to the members is disconcerting.

@2bc1 Nonsense. There is no nice way to talk to someone who appears to be entering dementia and is hurling racial slurs at Associates, and physically threatening their fellow Members simply because of some weird glitch in the system.
It will now also be increasingly difficult to get out of the way of Members who are about to engage in fisticuffs because one of them has a problem with the other’s Service Animals being inside of the Club...and we are in a pretty upscale area.

Some people are insane and they will continue to be insane whether or not you use a delicate tone and word-choice.

On the contrary I have probably work the membership desk more years than you've been alive let's put it that way. I know about them being upset for certain reasons but there's also a way you talk to them so they don't stay angry. And leave happy.

Basically they're is a hierarchy of anger directed at associates. Working on the floor is the lowest level, floor associates get very little c-ap.

Cashiers get a bit more when an item rings up more than what the member thought it was.

But you tell a member, who comes in with a non-working tv, that they bought last year, for which they are expecting to get a full refund or replacement and you tell them no. (90 day return policy and all.) I don't care how nice or sweet you are, members get angry and they direct their anger at us.
The examples are endless. My point, you don't work the desk, you have no idea.

Learn how to talk to members. You have no clue.

I disagree with the poster that said learn to talk to members. I don't care how nice you are there is still some out there that are mean and disrespectful. As for cashiers and people on the floor yeah they deal with members however any member coming in to complain and already mad there first stop is membership. So ur Agurment of other people deal with members is c-ap because they may but I can bet they don't get the treatment a membership person gets. And I agree we are there to teach members to do thing themselves and we will be let go just like some of the other positions. Only thing that saves us at our club is the fact most of our members are older people and they will flat out tell u they don't work for Sam's and they pay to shop there and they refuse to self check or do anything themselves. Hell if they won't even go find something and want u to do it for them do u think they are gonna check them selves out much less do there own return. Lol

What's the difference cashier's deal with members, club pick up deal with members floor associates deal with members learn how to talk to people with respect you'll get respect back. I do get some people are medicated and don't act right but I don't see what having a desk between you is gonna matter. No desk no leaning, no desk no under stockings no desk no clutter.

This new desk thing is just about stupid. This is all leading up to some sort of self service. Members hate it and so do the associates. It looks so unprofessional. Another great job of making a mess of everything HO 🙄
