Merch leads

Just wanted to hear from some merch leads in this company. I have a chance to become one but from talking to some of them it seems like they are responsible for a lot more than other leads.
The merch lead in my store stated that she is in charge of all areas within Grocery, Center, Hardlines, Bakeries cat 48 area, Click n Pull, audits, resets, helping open the building and helping the front end amongst other things.

This seems pretty daunting to me especially compared to other lead positions. Any merch leads on here have feedback good or bad?

It’s bad right now for sure. Way too many jobs rolled into one even split 4 ways between 2 shifts.

Both shifts have different specific things that are problems but the common theme between them both is that neither have enough people to do what is expected.

Kudos to you if you got a raise. But some of us didn’t only to watch people who had been leads for 6 months get $6/hr raises to make more than you.

I was a merch lead, I stepped down. Not worth the money! Don't do it!

Merch lead here, we cover everything on the floor, we stock the freezer/cooler (even though it belongs to fresh), we stock bakery cat 37/48 (even though it should be done by bakery....I mean wtf?), We do audits, resets, planning for events, Answer calls, Work hot items, Test scan / OYI reports, help the front end, help carts, click n pulls, etc.. the list goes on.

Be prepared to be very busy, our merch leads are basically mini managers.
You could literally take any other lead position in the club and do much less work. In terms of workload it goes merch leads, prepared food leads, the rest.

The Merch lead in my club doesn't do anything but walk around and disappear all day. I once was a team lead and I was held to a higher standard. Even when we are understaffed which is most days the lead is nowhere to be found!

I must be missing something. Our Merch. Lead doesn't do anything but walk around and step out the back door to smoke every hour or so.

Managers will not be able to step down to lead status. Take severance or find an open mgt position somewhere in the company.

If the managers are smart , 2 of them per club will drop down to lead status before the next year's restructure.... unless they want the severance package.

There's nothing wrong with being a lead, with all the changes, it would be nice if we had a national floor lead training event. They have done something like this in the past. I was at a tech team lead training in Dallas with every tech team lead in the country. They send managers to these things all the time. If they want us to take on this new role and be effective, I think proper training is in order. A quick cbl on what to do is not training.

It’s not that bad, don’t listen to these fools, get that pay raise, if you don’t like it find something different that you do like

Lead positions were always supposed to be the gateway into management. However, over the years veteran leads have blocked those positions from those wanting to move up to management. So now, they are saying here’s more money, learn how to be a manager or get out of the way.

If you don’t want the responsibility then don’t be a lead. However, with how c-appy yearly raises are, you probably aren’t going to get to $18 any other way.

Couldn't pay me enough to take a merch lead position now. They are the audit team, PTC and so much more now.

It's really just up to you, whether you're up for the task or not. I can tell you, I'm not anymore. I don't appreciate being forced to be a manager when I don't want to be one in the first place. My Club Manager wants us to be able to lead visitors through tours, and there's no way I can do that. It terrifies me. Good luck on whatever you decide, though.

First off Category 48 belongs to grocery .. Merchandisers are suppose to stock it .

And no I would. Become a lead right now and it’s going to get worse at the first of the year. All leads are called managers now so you’re doing a lot more and will be doing even more come January. That goes for all leads including Fresh leads .

Run and don't look back. Once managers are eliminated its going to even be worse once you are dealing with the members complaints. The lift drivers that was bumped up to 15 an hour were suppose to absorb some of the lead duties but that don't seem to be happening.

Elecrtonics, center/hardlines seasonal and clothing, HBA, grocery (cat 48 is a grocery cat now), club pick up, running for the front end. Also in my club, we are also responsible for freezer cooler stocking and zoning.

Yes with audits too, and jewelry sales

It is overwhelming on what needs done on a daily basis, especially if you are understaffed. Going into the holidays, with events will only be worse. 18 an hour is nice. I dont have any positives for you, its alot of "you didnt get this area touched" or "everyone needs to be in clothing in an hour" while half the store is in shambles.

In our store, we had older ladies who worked in jewelry and clothing before the change. they cant help stock the rest of the store, so that hurts our staffing further

You are an hourly manager is how it works this is one of the most underpaid positions in the club right now there are other lead positions that pay more and have alot less responsibility do not take this position if you can't handle the club by yourself when salaried managers are eliminated the Merchandise leads will be running the club

I would never become a lead again. It was great before all these changes. You do it now and you will have more work then you could ever finish. The extra money is not worth it.
