Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

verizon lump sum flyer

just got it in the mail showing how much we will lose if interest go up and suggesting it might be a good time to retire. can you believe it? rates go up and down all the time but I doubt they will be going up anytime soon. there actually going down so our lump sum will keep going up. DONT let the company propaganda scare you into retiring without an EISP. that's there plan. I know im NOT helping them on there 10 billion dollar cut they have to make by 2021. don't be foolish, wait for an EISP.

Looks like VZ is opening itself up for a future class action lawsuit. Someone in their first rate legal team should have caught this mistake. It is very shady to use scare tactics and misleading grafts and statements about what you are at risk of losing. If you do leave early you are guaranteed to lose 4 years of salary, 4 years of a 6% match towards your 401k contributions, 20 weeks of paid vacation, edays, sick days etc... Staying would also increase your social security payment because this payment is based on your highest 35yrs of taxable income earned.
If you left and worked a part time job this could significantly reduce your ss payment. VZ should be much more open and transparent with the mailings that are sent to their employees. Shame on them.

Got the same flyer, seems that they are trying to suggest you leave, kind of like a mind game.you leave when you are ready and have your things in order, dont just leave because they say it's a good time to go,i have seen many guys leave too early and got jammed up.dont make that mistake cross your T's and your I's before you make that decision..

Suggestion for Next Mailing?
Leave now, and your lump sum could look like this pictured overweight elephant!
Stay, and watch it possibly disintegrate to the size of this poor, starving ant!

Manipulation is not what stand-up people do.
This type of visual deception deserves to be called out for what it is. SMH.

I had hoped 2.0 wouldn’t be just more of the same old tired trickery. So disappointing, the lip service, while degrading mailings like that continue to slip through unabated. Unfair. Misleading. Insulting.
and just plain wrong and immoral.

There’s a chart on that mailing that looks kind of like stacked gambling chips.
To me, the risk of “loss” seems so crazily exaggerated in the chart.
For instance:
1 chip equals $410k, yet 9 equal $532k?
3 chips equal $451k, yet 14 equal $616k?
2 chips equal $429k, yet 11 equal $572k?
Who designed this blatantly disproportioned chart and, for what aim?
This lopsided pseudo-charting insults my intelligence.
It’s, IMHO, an oh so transparent, and insulting, attempt at deception, making potential losses appear so much more dire visually than reality bears out.
Was it authored by some kid who assumes boomers as mere senile manipulate-able fools, rather than the actual hard-working, rational, thinking professionals that they actually are?
In your parlance, EPIC FAIL!
No wool pulled over these eyes, IF you’re familiar with that ancient phrase we wise old-timers use.

I remember the same kind of pension notice came in the mail a week or two before the last big offer for FAA5 3 years ago.

I'm a VSPer and I got something telling me all about how to punch out of what pension I have. I guess they want me off the books.

You have to wonder how much money was wasted, printing and mailing this c-ap to thousands of people.

I wouldn't consider leaving without some kind of incentive, why would I give up four years pay for nothing?
