Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Raise for Carts, but no love for cashiers?

is it true? $13/hr starting december 1st, but just for cart associates? If so, what about cashiers? aren't we all the same department for front end? frankly, it takes more skill to effectively balance a till than push a friggin cart, sorry not sorry.

In our store, we only have 2 cart associates. Almost daily merchandisers have to go out for cart duty for at least an hour to up to 3 hours. This would not be too bad to deal with until you realize where my store is located it is considered one of the 5 coldest places in the US. Ever try pushing carts when it is -30 and snow on the ground... Yikes!

Why does it look like Sam’s club in Gilbert AZ is going to close soon. A lot of empty spaces and Clarence Items and running out of stuff. My opinion if they do close the employees would be the last to know until it happens

I agree cart guys do work hard. They are in rain snow heat and cold. Like the mailman doesn't matter the weather they still have to go out in it. I think they deserve 15 like everyone else got. Now cashiers work hard to they deserve a raise also. Then u have membership desk. Good grief we do so many jobs it's crazy. I read somewhere that we will be responsible to push carts also when the desk moves. Has anyone heard that? And are carts job code same as door and membership. My thing is though if door people are coded same as membership I do not think that is right at all. At some clubs maybe but our club nobody that works doors all the time does one thing membership does. So I don't know how they came up with putting them as member support. Makes no sense

Agreed. They are doing away with cashiers and, eventually, desk associates - evident with the new desk at the door.

It isn't much of a desk anymore anyway.

They want people to use scan n go, club pick up, get their memberships online, etc.

I think it's horrible, and I know, if I had to pay for the membership, I wouldn't. There's no service or help on the floor. It's a do-it-yourself store.

However, I love scan n go, cause I hate the lines, but if I can't find something or have a questions, I'm not waiting in that long line at that tiny, new desk, where only one associate works, to ask a question. I'll do without or go somewhere else. Krogers is still nice. And Amazon is pretty cool. (Samsclub.com sycks - you can't find a phone number, no one helps you. Amazon calls you back in a few seconds.)

Anyway, I don't see any raise in store for cashiers. They aren't getting rid of cart associates, so they are getting a raise.

I would recommend switching to a different department then, I agree with the response post. H.O is slowly doing away with the cashiers so they can invest more heavily in digital services. Club pickup, scan n go, online shopping or self checkouts, Do I agree with the changes, absolutely not. All H.O is doing is making members mad, upset with these new changes, my club was one selected for a test for the store to open at 9 a.m instead of 7, which only gives plus members a hour advantage now instead of 3. I work in the tire department at my club and now I am also hearing starting next year at some point we won't have our cash register or computer, everything will be done with the iPads, So I'm curious as to if we are eventually switching to just straight taking credit cards when that happens. But yeah back to the post about carts/cashier raises, Honestly I would look to switch departments before cashiers are gone, it's only a matter of time unfortunately, Us associates are just numbers to the company. As long as the big wigs/ executives are getting their millions of dollars, They could honestly care less about what happens to associates, They would rather have all the full time an long term employee's quit so they can just hire part timers. I feel like Sams club eventually will be just club pick up and online ordering, anything needed in store will probably have to go to a local Walmart. Hopefully it doesn't happen but I feel this is the way they are going unfortunately.

Probably because H.O is slowly trying to do away with cashiers, You don't see they are investing heavily in digital services. They would rather have members use club pickup, online shopping or scan n go app. So that would probably be the reason they are not giving cashiers raises if this is true, and I can say the cart associates at my club deserve a raise they but their a** rain, sun, snow or wind. I don't work in carts but will atleast say cart associates at my club bust their a**. If they were gonna give raises based on running a register, They'd have to give alot more raises than to just cashier's. Sorry, Not sorry.
