Thread regarding Optum layoffs

This is all about being replaced by AI not necessarily offsite workers

They are replacing people with automation and honestly some of the staff took advantage didn’t show up what do expect. I am not talking about the small amazing percentage that actually did their jobs. Maybe take a look at your own impact in this.

I can tell you that at least in Optum, they're not ready or capable of producing quality machine learning, let alone AI. What you mostly hear from leadership is a bunch of business jargon and false claims about this company heading into and leading (lol!) in this space. This company makes promises to clients it cannot keep in order to elevate its position in the marketplace. This company thinks highly of itself and its abilities, but doesn't have the infrastructure or the leadership with skillsets to understand ML/AI, let alone execute it! Mark my words, UHG will be surpassed by Google and Amazon healthcare analytics in the next 5 years and will lose its coveted position in the healthcare marketplace in general within 15 years. Optum management and leadership are charlatans.

I have been deeply involved in workforce and staffing planning over the past several months and they absolutely are replacing RNs/clinicians with AI. One presentation I saw said they could implement AI for 1/75 cost of RNs. No discussion of quality or member experience. Many RNs will he laid off in coming months due to this automation investment.

That is not correct. AI is in it's infancy and we are looking to use it for analytics currently. I work with AI. Cuts were made to the company for 3 main reasons.

  1. Cut non performing products
  2. Consolidate application areas and management
  3. Outsource tech and services to reduce costs

All are meant to cut costs. I don't like it, but that's what happened.

Many companies are switching to AI. UHG/UHC/Optum are following the market trend, hence the MOVE initiative. It's time for the world to re-assess what jobs will not be impacted by automation and to go after them.

I am very sorry to those who have lost their jobs recently. I lost my job at UHC as a over-performing employee three years ago - this was after serving 7.5 years at UHC and Optum. I found a higher-paying job at another company two-weeks later and I was welcomed back with open arms at UHC about a year ago. I know you feel someone punched you in the gut, but things will look up. Just keep on pushing forward.

If this comment doesn’t make sense to you go back to 1984. No disrespect but are you serious?

Ok, so people are responsible for the implementation of AI and we should examine our part in it? This isn’t an opinion site , please head over to Facebook with your nonsense and let’s stick to the info on the layoffs as THIS IS WHAT WERE DISCUSSING. 😡.
