Minot ND "up for lease"

So, this article states Minot ND's Kmart is "up for lease", but doesn't mention a closing. Does that mean it's probably closing soon?

I expect Minot to be announced very soon.

Nobody goes to kmart in Minot. I live there LOL. If we want groceries, we go to Cash Wise, for general sh!t we hit WM or Targy. Ain't nobody, save some old ladies without a car, needing toothpaste on Tues. Morning, shopping at Minot Kmart, LOL. Please.

That article is from November 4. I'm surprised it hasn't been announced yet. I mean, it's the last store left, in one of the smallest, most rural, sparsely populated states in the country. Sure they aren't raking in Big Bucks from Minot ND's Kmart, which is very close to WM/Target.
So as of now (when Bismarck ND closes), North Dakota, a state with about 600,000 people has the same amount of Kmarts (one) as Texas, which has about 30 million people. Montana, also a very small state, also has one, while far larger states like WI, IN, OH, etc, have none. Oddly, New Mexico, another tiny state, has double the amount of Kmarts as Texas does. While PA, a state with 12 million people has 5, and NJ, with 9 million people also has 5. Seems there is no rhyme or reason to this randomness. Weird. Maybe Eddie just likes small states.

If any leases coming due you can be sure it's over.

I'm honestly surprised, based on this link indicating lease was up, that Minot wasn't included in the last round. I mean, they closed Bismarck, which was a few miles south of there, so not sure why they wouldn't have just chopped down Minot, in the same round. I'm sure it will be coming soon though. I have been to Minot (and Bismarck), they are both perpetually empty. Expect them to get the ax Any Day.......

Yep, Wind Gap doesn't even have a Dollar General. It could be the last one... it's a shame, manager is very nice and runs a nice store with what little there is to work with.

Wind Gap will be around awhile longer. No competition.

@2htt That's a good point. Usually, Death nail for Kmart is if there's a Wally or Targy nearby. Those without 1 within a few miles tend to last a bit longer. Wilkes Barre was practically walkable to Wally and they're gonners. Same deal with Minot ND. Wind Gap may be around a bit, for that reason, Kingston, though, probably not, as WM is a couple of miles away.

Walnutport and Wind Gap are both quite isolated, no immediate competition. Was in Wind Gap recently, store is still well kept but stock was spotty.

@1wpm Top store as in volume? Or Profit? Not sure Wind Gap, PA is a huge market, but I guess anything is possible LOL. Ya, I wouldn't be surprised to see those 2 go, as well as Kingston PA.

Walnutport was on the list last time but was removed. Wind Gap mentioned but not sure. Heard that was a top store but that don't matter anymore.

@1mjh Any idea which 2 Kmarts in PA? They only have 5 left, my feeling is Kingston. That store was closed for Several Months, recently, because of a flood. Oddly, they opened it back up, but I think, it will close, just like nearby Wilkes Barre did.

@1uce I think they will all eventually close too, but old Ed might try to keep maybe Guam, and the NYC stores open, maybe USVI, for a while, just to save face. "See I saved Kmart, I left 4 stores open, hee-hee-hee". I mean, any clown with a Hot dog or lemonade stand, can make A Profit in NYC, by default, simply because of the sheer volume of people there. But in these far flung states, nah, they're done. I live in ND, and nobody shops at the store in Bismarck that is closing. It's always empty. It's walking distance to Wally, so why would anyone go there just to Pay More? As for Minot, they had a store manager opening listing, recently, which has suddenly pulled from the jobs website. I think that store will be announced very soon. It's location, is just not that good either, even though Minot is a fairly populated town (for ND anyway).

It would be a blessing. The not knowing what the plan is at this point is just not worth it anymore. Working our backsides off with no rewards is just too draining.

Who cares anymore at this point? Kmart is done. One more closure wave in the first few months of 2020. Goodnight.

They are ALL closing. There is no way to distribute merchandise to all the scattered stores. The store base can only support one DC at most and transportation costs would be outrageous. As soon as the remaining merchandise in the dc’s is burned off and the liquidators are freed up from this round, the final round will start. In the meantime, be sure your binders are up to date...

If you were a landlord, would you renew a lease with this company? Possible have the property tied up while in bankruptcy?

Means the store will close as soon as they find someone to take the lease
They have already admitted that transformco is making money off the real estate and leases
They don’t. Are about running a retail chain
Never did

Well, found this other article on it that writes "no closure imminent" but take that with a grain of salt:
