Thread regarding Red Hat layoffs

Red Hat layoffs Sept 2019

A dozen that I know of personally across several divisions. Most were 10+ year veterans. The layoffs were kept on the down low as it was only a few in each department. Senior management continues to trumpet about how "smooth the merger is" and never acknowledges the layoffs. Everyone given 1mo to 90days severance along the lines of IBMs new policy of "workforce action".

exiting 12 people from a 15,000 person company is not a “lay-off.” usually when I hear that, it is a team figuring out how to exit performance problems with the least amount of hassle.

we never want to see if that way: they are friends and former colleagues. But you are unlikely to hear them say that they were on a performance plan or similar.

Even today, many RH people have no idea it ever happened. Upper management won't acknowledge it & when cornered & asked, they reply that all had an opportunity to find new roles (they weren't). Supposedly the decision all came from former IBM, now RH VP (who is now owned by IBM) Chiras as a show of power. Lower managers didn't know it until 48hrs prior that they had to choose the sacrifices.

Sr. Mgmt. quote. Meritocracy is leaving RH along with it's talent. The purposes of the reorgs. within RH are job safety & power grabs.

You are right, Call me Jim! Married to 10+ yr. employee. Not laid off, but reorgs. provide a way to push out old Sr. Managers & hire new cronies from outside RH & IBM. Jim Whitehurst talked about merging RH & IBM cultures four mo. ago. RH VP's are k–ling RH culture from within.
