Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Those who are considering leaving Cisco

In case you are unable to decide one way or another, try thinking about it from a different perspective. Remove the constant threat of layoffs from your consideration and ask yourself if you still enjoy your job. It might sound simple, but it certainly helped me decide to stay.

Layoffs are a threat everywhere, but I actually still like my job. So I'm gonna ride it out. Other people will probably make a different choice but the end result is the same - you are moving on from a stalemate position.

You must be working for a different company but this is maybe an indication of why Cisco is having to do what it's doing. I left voluntarily, mainly to readdress my work/life balance - sick of working evenings and weekends and having to cancel holidays. Not US based or in engineering - customer facing and having to deal with constant product escalations

Ignoring the threat of layoffs = putting your head in the sand and hoping for the best.

It is not reality.

  1. Easy job
  2. WFH everyday
  3. I put in only 2 hrs per day, then chill out the rest of the day
  4. Pay is extremely great
  5. No stress
  6. Why would any sane person walkaway from all the above 5?

I will stay till I get LR'ed, then will take the compensation package and chill out the next 6 months before I reply to join this gravy train as a contractor.

Why would not people want to explore other opportunities in Tech? Why does one stick to Cisco for years? It is not like Cisco pays the best. It is not even mediocre compared to other companies especially in Bay Area. Unless one figured out how to coast along without doing anything or do not know how to find job outside or basically unemployable out side, there is no other reason to stick to Cisco for years.
