Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

West Colton

Abolished 3 FG1 jobs posting them back up as Manager positions. More pay but way worst insurance. Seems like UP wants the control/ability to change their schedule at a moments notice and fire them easily since they are non union. At least UP is consistent in taking care of its people.

Car dept got rid of fg’s last year. What did you think was going to happen? I’m surprised it took this long.

Abolishing these jobs and only hiring white guys. West Colton is pretty racist like that..white guys also get dated faster. Just saying. Don’t believe me go to west colton your self

It doesn't matter if they replace FG's with circus clowns, because all they'll be doing is approving POs for the contractors that UP will hire to do the actual work. It doesn't take any skills or experience to download the app onto your company phone and tap "approve".

Anything that can't be automated will be contracted out and anything that can't be contracted out will be automated.

West Colton always had the best safety feeds with fresh hot dogs. We lost some good men but you can always come back for family day.

Still have a few blind fg1s drinking the Koolaid from the west colton punch bowl. St=pid is as st=pid does. Its funny how they are all of a sudden so loyal to the company now but when they were a craft person they were mostly asleep or watching movies. Nobody takes them seriously. Money cant buy morals and ethics.

@11cop maybe you should hire better quality of craftsman instead of your neighbor so you can brag to the HOA. Culture starts at the top a**hat!

@11coapDP-igg , the FG's at our shop worked harder than the managers ever could have dreamed of working. In fact, FG status at our facility was how the hard working, knowledgeable people moved up. In some cases, they had taken over the responsibilities that our lazy (and numerous) managers should have been doing. But last year that FG status was taken away from them, but in most cases they were asked to keep doing the same amount and type of work, if not more. I agree there are a lot of sorry, useless agreement employees, but the only thing that wiping out the FG's at our facility did was demonstrate that a lifetime of working diligently at this company gets you exactly nowhere. There is no reason to put in any more than the bare minimum effort because Uncle Pete wants nothing more than to chew you up and spit you out.

In most large companies it is customary to fire workers who don't/won't perform.

Maybe if the agreement workers were a little less entitled and complacent it wouldn't have come to this in the first place. Try what you do at any other large company without a union and see how long you keep your job.
