not a subscriber so can't see full story yet. NYS had better deal but NC was picked?!!??

1vel: I put #3 as even at this late stage, alternative tactics have not been revealed. It’s a real possibility that NC is organized as a Support Services subsidiary - thus no severance to those who refuse to relo at a lower wage. That policy change happened. This also enables later inexpensive firing of some of the 20-/+ dead wood they are retaining to train the new staff.

The N.C. move was all about

  1. Getting rid of high paid employees
  2. False assumption that XIM is incompetent
  3. Mechanism to avoid severance and at same time leverage holding company structure
  4. Assumption that NC talent can be obtained at Wake County wages

RTP has a lot of successful companies. Xerox will realize they need to treat IT like gold to retain them. I don't see Xerox doing that.

If I was NYS or Texas and used any Xerox products or services within state and local government operations, I’d dump every last one of them. That being said, hopefully would not have repercussions on what jobs are not phased out of NYS thru 2020 which will rapidly dwindle. Not much left in Texas or California if any.

To date Xerox has been unsuccessful in attracting or keeping recent college graduates. If you had college loans would you work for a company with an expiration date looming? Not unless it was the only option until something better came along.

In terms of why they opted not to keep IT in NY my guess would be money. They were offered a package that would likely have spread tax breaks and incentives over a number of years. But if they stayed in Webster they couldn’t justify replacing their experienced & highly paid people with new college graduates on a lower pay scale. Cost of doing business and taxes are already lower in NC. Couple that with lower wages and benefits costs in NC and you’ve offset a lot of the benefit that the NYS package would have provided.
