I miss working at Sears

The last part of my carreer, after working elsewhere, I worked for Sears for longer than a decade. I worked my way up to a good sales position, however, I was getting kinda long in the tooth, and decided to retire. I LOVED working there, made friends, miss it terribly, This is not BS, it's true. I hate to see where things are right now, my store closed after I retired, I often wonder about my former coworkers, and how they are doing. I wish it could have been different. Please understand that I gave it my all, and it was hard to walk out the door that last day, knowing I would not be back. I met employees at other stores, and I can tell you, that Sears had a great, dedicated work force. There will never be another company like this. We might have had some problems, but EVERYONE seemed to like working there. I wish the remaining employees well, they are working hard and deserve recognition.

@3xyw... Yes. Depends on what year you are talking about. (The main post is mine.) Right before I retired from HA, they told us they were going to cut comission on BRANDS, but not so much on Kenmore. Therefore, if you sold a full kitchen with PA's install etc, you would make less than you would doing the same with Kenmore, which, hey, maybe someone wanted a different brand. I tried to steer them to Kenmorre, not just for myself, but because Kenmore offered so many features and choices, at a comparable price. That was not long before I retired. I worked there longer than I alluded to in my original post, and I made much more money in HA than the electronics folks could. Of course that all changed. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

I haven't had nearly as much time at Sears as some of the posters have had, but I worked there for six years. Two years in electronics and four in appliances. The first two years were fun. Our store wasn't the busiest, but business was steady and I made pretty good money as a CE associate. In fact, I made more money being a part time CE associate averaging 25-30 hours a week than I did being full-time in HA.

After my first two years, CE withered away and merged with appliances. We were told that we'd make much more commission selling appliances than we would in electronics. I fell for it and went in to it with an open mind. The reality versus what we were told were two different things. I remember selling a full kitchen with five year PAs, delivery, installation – the whole kaboodle – shortly after we merged with appliances. Seeing my commission statement the next day was disappointing to say the least as I remember only earning about $100 off of the whole thing. I could sell even just a mid-range TV with a three year PA (and nothing else) and earn that much, if not more with the SPIFFs and commissions.

Worked for Sears for 20 years in majaps. A store in so-so neighborhood . Of the last 8 years income declined 5-15 % each year. I even had 3 pay periods where I netted 0.00 after taxes, insurance and 401k. Retired 3 years ago. Miss some of the people, but the last 5 years were hell. The demise of Sears is really sad, but as a friend of mine reminds me " I signed up to work for Sears and Roebuck, not Sears Holdings". Sometimes change doesn't work out. At least I got my health back.

Worked at Sears for 45 years. The first 35 were great. When Eddie came aboard , not so great.
Month to month not sure if i still had a job. Was let go from H/E just short of 45 years.

Yes. My experience with the company spanned 27 years. At the end I was making really good money. Worked my tail off for it too. The closures hit all over. Then it was my turn to separate. I am now making 60 percent of what I was, but I can advance again. Those were some glory years. I miss them too.
