Is oracle really trying to compete or is this just a bluff? Where is the money coming from?
"Gen 2 Cloud" is the same OneAD garbage they've been doing for a while to be able to say "We have a location in X". It's still an empty colo with 3 racks in it, and it still costs them a minimum of $500K/month in colo, power and telco costs with little or no offsetting revenue.
They can build it, but they (customers) won't come.
This is what I miss about Oracle.... all the laughs.
What a joke.
Where’s my DR site located? Sorry we can’t tell you that. Just trust us.
And no DR. No enterprise customer in the world wants that
Most of these new "regions" are 3 racks in colo cages and capacity will be added as it is sold. Hardly hyperscale, and fits with SC's cloud investment strategy of "if they come, we will build it".
It's a bit confusing. It says they are going to "build" data centers. Not sure how they are going to do that and prop up the stock at the same time. But later it says it's all possible because they are "software" data centers. So, what does that mean?
I willing to bet, nothing has really changed, just renting space in existing data centers and "building" them with software.
Who the feud need to pass data back and forth to create traffic. It’s all because of the growing numbers of unit tests done wrong taking down all the resources
Are you sure it’s overcapacity? Oracle is severely undercapacity and lacking in infrastructure. There is tremendous growth in internal demand and extremely inefficient processes with huge and growing overheads. the computational resources can’t keep up with growth. Plus there is actual growth in NS GBU.
WTF? We currently have ridiculous overcapacity with our existing datacenters ... both owned and rented.
Let's all get free-tier Oracle Cloud accounts and pass data back and forth all day, like steps in a massive Towers of Hanoi or some such.
We can generate heavy traffic and create meaning in the lives of OCI engineers everywhere.
It's not gonna happen. Just more BS from 3-day-a-week LE.
There aren't any real Oracle Cloud (just a bunch of POCs) customers and constant (unpredictable) layoffs, Opening new data centers for what purpose? If we do, we would have job posting at the sites or have addresses. Not only that, Oracle morale so low that they will have a hard time hiring people even in India. Recession is hitting, everyone is cautious in spending from general consumers, companies, and government. Just pure common sense.
This is the key
“ Oracle said its massive expansion is possible thanks to its Gen 2 Cloud Infrastructure which provides highly optimized region deployment technologies that can implement a software-defined data center and cloud services in days.”
In other words they aren’t building new data centers but are simply renting some existing providers existing infrastructure. It is a joke to compare this to the other cloud providers who are spending billions of dollars to actually build their own data centers.
