Thread regarding King Soopers layoffs

Layoffs are happening

Denver division, King Soopers.

It all started yesterday, all store managers have to go to a certain location to find out whether they have their job or not.

Selected ASM have received an invite to find out if they have their job.

Every store has a dark cloud over it right now with uncertainty and sadness.

Devastating that a company that you have worked so hard for to treat you like you're nothing, no value.

Praying for everyone affected.

Kroger, Our Purpose is to Feed the Human Spirit™. We do that through Our Promise to be friendly and caring, provide everything fresh, to uplift every way, and improve every day.

Your promise is to feed the corporate hungry jerks. Friendly and caring up until someone makes to much money. Then you kick them out the door if they care. Provide everything fresh by kicking out the old-timers and keeping slimy workers. Uplift everyway and improve everyday by making sure to keep your sick Ponzi scheme going. Kroger makes me sick. That's what your real promise is. Promise to pretend to care about your sick overworked co-worker. You can't even retire out people who care instead you fire them so you can make more money.

The people who steel also come in and get a refund for items they didn’t buy and we have to give it to them what a joke you have created monsters out of the customer as if they are wrong and you can prove it they get what they want also you are hiring anyone any more weather they are on d–gs or if they steel or ncns or just don’t show up what do they have to loose they work only on day or two so they don’t take the job seriously ,why should they they pay more at Mc Donald’s per hour then we do and someone else ho has been there for over 10 years the new hire front end supervisors get paid the same so loyalty gets you nothing.

Debra,
1) You should only be asked to go to self checkout if you have few items, but you can still tell them that you'd rather be checked out, it just reduces their metrics and then they get in trouble.

2) Employees aren't allowed to stop shop lifters for safety reasons (most stores don't have any sort of security officer anymore), and liability. Kroger doesn't want to have to take every shoplifter to court to just get sued... Shoplifting costs are subsidized through increased prices on all products.

3) Unfortunate about the layoffs. They just created a lot of those positions 3 or 4 years ago.

The reason people are not shopping is because we are being forced to do everything ourselves. Scan and Go is encouraged the minute you walk in the door. If you stand in a line for a checker you are asked to go to self check out. Pretty soon that is all there is going to be! No thank you!!

In addition shoplifting is rampant. In my local marketplace store in Colorado Springs employees have told me they are not allowed to stop shoplifters. They have people gathering cart loads of things and walking out the door. I observed two young men who claimed cc dropped in self checkout plate. When employee went to.get help, they walked out with carload of groceries. Front Manager (Kim) and employee went to door and said they couldnt see where they went. I walked out and blocked them in. They still didnt come out to get them. The employees said even when the bell dings when the customer walks out they are not allowed to question them. Sounds like laziness to me and huge losses to the brand.

Where were the layoffs? I'm with the Dept of Labor Rapid Response team and we can bring services to help folks find new jobs. Workshops to help them learn about free career services through the local workforce centers and how to file for unemployment. Have employees already left?
