Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

TEXAS YARD CLOSINGS

A real good buddy of mine, recently returned from Omaha, and stated they will be closing and contracting these yards out to Watco Companies. Lloyd Yard in Spring, Texas and the yard in Beaumont, Texas. Watco will do the switching and industry work for Union Pacific. Proposed changeover to be late 2020 to early 2021. They are pushing to have them changed over by October 2020.

I heard the superintendent say a while back that it would be great if UP only ran road trains and had all the switching done by contractors.

So you only know how to switch cars if you work for a class 1 railroad? I’m confused.

Well there's licenses that have to be acquired, and I'm sure there's going to be insurance that's going to be needed for contract switching. No one has made mention of correct car placement. I think everyone knows what happens if a car is placed incorrectly. All kinds of bad sh– happens. If they go to full contract switching, then it'll get exciting real fast.

Word here in Omaha is that Sioux City IA and Council Bluffs IA switching yards could possibly be the next yards to be contracted out and switched by Watco. This would cause quite a few layoffs.

Beaumont will close and the car speed will come up 2 mph. Don’t think anyone or anyplace is too important. They will show you how wrong you are.

Beaumont is too important of a yard to shut unless they divert traffic elsewhere

So did your real good buddy say when that would be announced?

They contracted out the switching for the local auto facilities a long time ago and they s—ed. Contract it all out who gives a f. Run it straight into the ground. Next time they have a presidential train leave from there contract that out too. But make sure u keep the military and employee appreciation locomotives so the two employees left will know they’re loved.

They want to have it all implemented by then in case the president changes. If so it’ll be too late to stop. Trump and his union busting NLRB are corporation friendly. Right now the carriers know they can get away with this without any retribution. I haven’t heard of many (if any) wins in arbitration cases since the last election. Also, agreement violations are out of control due to the same reason. No one is going to stop them. Voting has consequences whether you want to believe it or not.
