Thread regarding Goodyear layoffs

Is Gadsden closing?

Nothing official yet but all the signs point to an eventual shutdown. The corporation has made no investments in the plant in over 10 years and buyouts were offered to all eligible employees in the plant last month. The plant also recently eliminated one whole production shift.

Found this at @YobvyZP-39mym. I thought it would be a good idea to bump it into a thread for info.

Shutdown was officially announced by the media last night, pending approval by the union. The Gadsden Goodyear plant is going away.

The common wisdom at the plant is that it will be closed when a Ford OEM contract is fulfilled mid 2020. With the most current layoffs (January 2020) there are only enough staff to build those ford tires and not much else.

The workers could decertify the union and offer to cut costs in other ways. I wonder if city leaders and plant workers have considered this option? I’m not holding my breath....

I believe we've seen the last contract at Goodyear gadsden. I think the plant will close at the end of this contract, which is 2022. But there's a clause that says if the company is in bad shape they can do what's needed. It could close sooner.
