Well I got an up close look at this thing, and was not the least bit impressed. Did they take this thing to earl scheib for a paint job after they sealed it with roofing tar? What a complete waste of resources and time.
If thats the best restoration skills the so called "steam team" has then, well nevermind I guess thats UP quality.

I didn't elect to get caught up in the madness "chasing" it. I've watched almost all of the videos and have yet to hear it really work. Doesn't appear that the injector on the fireman's side is picking up which leaves them with only one injector, which isn't legal. I think the jacket looks like c-ap. Ill fitting and not correct. I think this was a highly publicized "complete" rebuild that s—s. These were built to run and not be shoved around.
I can't imagine being laid off and reading all the raving over the UP and how magnificent this is.
It goes through water like the Hoover Dam and has a loud whistle. I'm sure that's comforting to those poor people laid off. Helluva way to run a railroad.
They're trying to keep the cuts as quiet as possible. The big boy is a distraction only. This went from an efficiency push to a saving face race. Anyone remember when they said they were selling Selma farm? Yeah they didn't. It's never been on the market yet. I just saw a video last night about a legislator calling the UP out. Lance and Jim are going to hang themselves. Just wait for it. The UP is pissing off way too many people.
I bet they donate it back.
I'm sure it's out of the advertising budget and is probably a tax deduction for them
If the media is writing about the big boy then they aren't writing about the layoffs and that's the goal. it's not completely working but they are getting a little press about it and the foamers are beside themselves.
