Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Some numbers on SAS "layoffs"

Posted elsewhere:

2000+ people have disappeared off the employee phone list since 9/2018. I know, I was one of them and I still have friends sending me the list monthly.

Schabenbuggered, indeed - he's not just ignorant of software at any level, he's a menace. And Goodnight is not just letting it happen, he's encouraging it (when he's not sleeping in meetings).

There's some article by Goodnight on LinkedIn where he talks about putting people first. He claims SAS has never had a layoff, and there will be no Covid-related layoffs, as people are always first. The SAS sycophants commented about how great he is and all, as is typical.

This is all PR nonsense, intended to spin the break in profit growth into something altruistic that makes the company look favorable. It's nonsense.

Yes, like others here, I was laid off. This came after 18 years at SAS and in spite of achieving the "Distinguished" title (level 6). No real reason given, but our group of 6 were all suddenly dismissed. By all appearances, it seem to have to have been due to Schabenberger's personal vendetta our then manager, Armistead Sapp. On the bright side, life has become far more enjoyable since being away from SAS's toxic work environment.

Bloomberg interview of Dr. Goodnight. Virus May End 44 Years of Profit for Mogul’s Software Firm

Corrected Link: https://example.com/ycvyczmw

I suspect there's a reason for not releasing 2019 sales figures.

I was wondering the same thing. This is the time of year managers march around delivering new salary and bonus information on little yellow sticky notes. Well that’s how they did it in my former division, which is now extinct.

March 3, 2020 and still no revenue figures to be shared. I wonder if SGF will take place with the Corona Virus breakout?

Head of Publications was axed last year and her former fiefdom has been dismantled. Just last week a whole group dedicated to IT support was laid off. Just the beginning. Upper management was too complacent for far too long, giving lip service to truly innovative ideas and customer feedback. I was there in the early 1980s when it was wonderful and I was there as the end neared. Thankfully, I could read the writing on the wall from a mile away and am now happy in my new position far removed from micromanaging, creativity-k–ling SASland. Oh the tales I could tell.
Karma...

No word on profit just silence. It’s almost time to find out if SAS is gone off the Best Places to Work US list. dropped 2 # 60 in 2019. maybe they will just not announce & pretend it’s not happening. Oh and bye Randy Guard, don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. that should save the company a few hundred grand a year easy

To add to the growth/revenue woes, it appears SAS lost a major court case in the UK (and by extension, the EU) against WPL costing SAS millions of GBPs in damages. The UK court has also ruled that SAS can't appeal the courts decision. The only thing left is whether WPL will file a claim for non-compensatory damages. It could be (and likely will be) millions more. It got so bad that the UK courts threatened to issue arrest warrants and seize SAS assets in the UK.

Odd how this award hasn't gotten any coverage in the Raleigh News & Observer or the Triangle Business Journal.

Any word on what SAS is saying revenue growth was (wasn't) in 2020?

Sas institute is the most unloyal, backstabbing, dishonest companies out there. The marital affairs are outrageous. The s-xual harassment goes unpunished and widespread in executive levels as well as the CEO. I know. I worked there over 20 years.

Changing of the old guard to the young guard with lower wage expectations and requirements?

I am not aware of the total number of folks that have been released over the past year. However, I know of senior leaders, that have invested a lifetime of high value contributions to SAS, that have been summarily dismissed. Additionally, I am aware of senior level technical resources whose contributions shaped the company, have been dismissed or left the company voluntarily.
