Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

Reality Sets In

All joking aside, most of the people reading this blog know that a great deal of the "news" reported on here is fake and over exaggerated. But, some of the news regarding mass layoffs, closure/idling of operations at certain points, etc has actually become bitter reality. This chaos is not done, it's going to progressively get worse before getting better. We know there's going to be more layoffs, more closure/idling of locations...Those fact's can't be denied. Another thing that we all have to realize is that even if/when this mess turns around not everybody will be called back to work and not every location will be in full operation. And it may be years to see any kind of eventual turn around. Even if the call back in the future, can we really trust them? This wave of management really did more harm than good. And in my opinion, it really does seem that there isn't much of a stable future on our Railraod anymore

This has become a wake up call for a lot of people, especially the "railroad superstars". All the management butt they kissed, all the people they stabbed in the back, all the times they put on their smoke and mirrors show to make themselves look like they're the #1 absolute best, all the times they saved the railroad with their chests puffed out...most of those guys are laid off, out on the streets. Yes, reality sets in...we are ALL just a number, no matter what. The pat on the back from the company that they lived for turned out to be the shove out the door they thought they'd never get. I agree with everything Pseudo123 said. In the beginning I didn't want to hear about any of this stupidity associated with PSR and all that. But I've come to realize the bitter reality he mentioned. 22 years ago I never thought I'd see things go down like this. I do feel bad for the people who lost their jobs. A lot of them were good workers. Maybe in the future some will be called back and will have to decide whether or not to go back. A lot will not be called back. And Those of us who are fortunate enough to still be working (for now anyway), all we can do is keep going to work until they tell us not to.

I agree with all that. But I'm gonna show up, do what I need to do to provide a paycheck for my family of 5. I'll stay until they tell me otherwise. I have been laid off twice with this company, but I will try to last as long as I can.
