No new products to sell, continued erosion of purchasing power, lack of proximity to distribution centers, etc. Stores closing that are not on any previously announced list.
It is impossible to imagine any stores being left after March of 2020.

@4yvj I agree, we will see lots in January.
I'm hearing from my friends left at HE (the few who are still there) that it's a tax game. Eddie likely wants to save some of his tax writeoff losses for the 2020 calendar year. Best guess is we will hear more in mid-January.
So when will the next major round of closings be announced? Before or after Christmas? And how many in the next round? I expect almost all Kmarts, at least (other than Guam and maybe a few other USVI/PR locations). They simply cannot continue Kmart with 48 mainland stores. Probably a whole bunch of Sears as well. I think the Sears name will be kept alive, with those goofy, small format stores, but the Kmart name (outside of Guam and maybe a few other places) is history (of course the name is used in Australia, but that's an unrelated company).
@1wej You Know he's trolling. Obvious troll is obvious. Why even ask or feed the troll?
for real or just trolling?
That would be great! I have wanted this company to close for 20 Years. My dream will soon come true. Winning! After a long game, we are finally in the 9th inning, 2 outs, nobody on, Kmart down 20-0. Victory will soon be here. I will celebrate. Good guys Winning, bad company losing. Poetic justice. Eat it, I got you Kmart. I wanted this for Years. I Won.
Commence here, poetic justice is sweet.
You're all wrong, they're going to rebound, have a spectacular holiday season, set all kinds of records for the most sales in a day, the most in a week, and the most in a month! They'll make so much money by the end of the holidays season that they'll open up 500 more stores in 2020! They'll all going to set more and more records that in 2021 over a thousand new stores will open!! They're going to have over 10,000 stores come 2022, and it's all because that generous, great guy Eddie! He saved Kmart and Sears, so thank you! Down vote me all you want, I'm the down vote king!!
Yup... but how long did we expect that 250mil to last? even if it all only went to the 200 go forward stores thats 1 mil per store. That's not covering inventory let alone payroll, rent, insurance, and corporate overhead. It was more like a cover your a– 250mil so El can go back to captain drain and tell him he tried his best... "look I even gave them another 250mil and it still sank" he will leave out that it was really just 250 million bars of lead used to sink the thing like a brick tied to a dead body before you toss it into the ocean.
I hope so.
The fat lady is singing.
I have said the same thing late February or march
