Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Hometown stores

With the full line stores possibly being closed completely what do people think will happen to the hometown stores? Will they be the go forward format or just the next division to close? Is it viable for Sears to just supply these independently owned franchises or is it not worth it logistically or financially? If they shut down would the franchise holders be able to continue to operate a hardware store or be forced to close?

the plan was to transition some hometowns to corporate owned and back to independently owned stores, but with no money, no vendors, and no stock, along with the failure of the home & life concept, the notion of that succeeding in any meaningful way is laughable. no franchisee is going to stick around with a company that has deliberately and methodically been trying to destroy them first through malice then by ineptitude

Until last year, there were still a few Blockbuster stores in Alaska as well.

A lot of states have strict franchise laws. If Sears corporate disappears, the franchises could still legally retain the right to use the Sears name (limited in scope and area to what they are currently using). This has happened with franchises of past corporate bankruptcies...Blockbuster, Radio Shack, etc.

Supply them with what? Most respectable vendors won't do business with Eddie.

Some of the acquired hometown stores are corporate owned. Even if all Full Line stores close, there will still be corporate owned stores, under the Home and Life, Appliance showrooms, and Hometown formats.
