Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Is it wise to sign severance agreement if department was involved with wrong doing?

Is the severance meant to silence people with a confidentiality clause? Has anyone asked an attorney if the release is worth the small weeks of severance offered?

I don't know what the extent of "wrong doing" was, but I would suggest you contact an attorney and if appropriate, become a whistleblower.

If the division is involved in wrong doing, the layed off workers could become "scapegoats." Be careful, the severance may not be worth it if it wouldn't allow you to defend yourself.

From what I understand below, its not about "winning", the person is concerned about protecting their own interests if they were innocent in a department that involved wrong doing. Better to check with an attorney. Talking with an attorney about protecting individual interests doesn't have to be about suing them. From the posts on this site, it looks like some attorneys in town don't take UHG/Optum employment cases to sue because of how UHG/Optum plays but they would likely consult to protect someone's interests.

You will not win against this corporate giant and their endless dollars to spend on attorneys. Sign the severance papers and move on. There is a job waiting for you out there with a company that has integrity. UHG has no idea what that word even means.
