Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Inventory schedules

Are there any other stores out there that do not have any colleagues scheduled for inventory shifts in January? Apparently our schedules came out and no-one has inventory shifts.

When my small Macys closed almost 4 years ago, everything proceeded as if inventory was happening. Preparation was ongoing, ticketing being done, inventory stickers in place, etc. Then the boom dropped. Announcement was made public, and we we started liquidation sales within a few days. The liquidators take over the store. They sell absolutely everything, even the mirrors on our jewelry counter! Very sad time for all of us that worked there. That store was very special - real team work from store manager down to on calls. I took a transfer to a larger store, but it doesn’t hold a candle. No team work, no fun, only stress, gets worse every year.

Store management hasn't talked much about inventory at all. Practically nothing in regard to prep, such as an emphasis on reticketing and mismates or drawing any maps, as was the case in previous years, around this time. Nothing. One sales supervisor asked some colleagues if they would be willing to work inventory. I heard from one colleague that our interim sales manager would be asking others soon about working inventory, but they still haven't been asked about it a week later. Earlier this month, there were no quick pick-up shifts on In-site available for inventory. There are no messages about inventory coming up on in-site. A couple of days ago (before Christmas), some associates had inventory shifts visible on schedule reports on In-site. Today (12/27), those shifts disappeared from the schedules. With inventory 2 and a half weeks away, is this a sign that the store may be closing? Is anyone familiar with how store closures are announced and handled and how that relates to a store skipping inventory to head into closure mode? No WARN notice listed...yet. Judging by previous patterns, Macy's has filed these notices in clusters around early to mid January over the past few years–just prior to or shortly after the normal dates for inventory. To add to the probability of closure, the mall is hovering around 50% vacancy. The entire second floor of the macy's wing is empty stores. Sears left a year and a half ago (still empty) and the mall is also losing a large Forever 21 this month. The mall owners also promised renovations 2 years ago which have yet to start in any way shape or form.

This is a smaller macy's location that rarely has the stock that the two other nearby macy's have. Some departments were recently condensed to make room for Backstage this past summer. Would they invest in renovations for that area and still close? Cut their losses?

As far as stock and product mix: If we have 0, 1, 2, or 3 of a particular item, other nearby locations may have 20-30 of that item. Also, a huge number of our returns end up in the non-congruent shelves or hard-marked one-of-a-kind 30/50.

I've always felt that this particular location was cursed in some way. Compared to other macy's it's always been far more understaffed, quite lack-luster in comparison, and in constant disrepair–other than the Backstage overhaul and the occasional carpet changes due to an incident of some sort such as a flood (on the first floor once) or carpets so torn, tattered or buckled as to become a tripping hazard which forced their replacement for safety reasons. The passenger and freight elevators have gone down or trapped people many times over the years. Speaking of which, the permit in the elevator expired years ago and the lights indicating the floor have long since burned out and so has the indicator tone for "up" or "down" which I'm pretty sure is an ADA thing that hasn't been addressed. Sometimes an escalator will go down for a month or two and when one gets fixed, another one dies. When the new carpeting was installed in one particular area, it had to be removed and reinstalled just two days later because the contractors installed the "wrong" carpet. It's an albatross of a location. I'm also pretty sure the Sensormatic detection systems haven't worked in years. I can't remember the last time I've heard it indicate anything. One of them has been flashing its red light continuously for years. Backstage carts have sensors on them, but they always seem to make it out the door without setting any of them off at any of the exits, not to mention customers coming back regularly with sensors still attached to items they'd bought and saying "I'm surprised it didn't go off." Well, I'm not surprised. How about that shrink? What a joke. Maybe it's time to give up the ghost on this one? Hmmm... I would not be surprised.

I could also go into the personnel turnover and wildly inconsistent management styles and strategies through the years, but I stuck to the tangible, quantifiable defects as opposed to the qualitative ones.

Thoughts? The Titanic. Still rearranging those deck chairs.

store 328 is less than a 20 million dollar door and not making plan.

I was thinking the same thing. No inventory schedules could mean that your store might be closing.

We were told by district a few weeks ago that their will be alot of open shifts that will need to be filled for inventory once the schedule was released.
Never really got a solid answer why. Some BS about alowing more flexibility in scheduling.

Are the shifts there & still open and no one has picked them up yet? Did the shifts get put in the system in the first place and done on time? It was the OAPM responsibility in our location to get them inout
