I actually like Broadcom. Today I worked from home. Slept in, Took care of my family, watched little TV, checked my LinkedIn feed, had a small nap, met a friend out for lunch. I even booked my next vacation. Management gives 2 week sprints for something that only takes me a day or two. . How was your Broadcom day?

Quit being cry babies, just deal with it or get out. Or maybe you are no different than the very folks you’re complaining about....🤣

Mainframe org banned and cracked down WFH like never before and everyone hates it. They will lose more people if not lightened up. Is distributed getting away with WFH? Time to run those badge reports and review your online activity

Yes dead.

Escaping CA/Broadcom is equivalent to a single engine plane trying to escape gravity of earth

Facts about CA/Broadcom

1) Products use a technology stack 2-3 decades old. Some even older!
2) Nothing new or even slightly interesting is being developed.
3) Whatever you build future employers don’t care(see #2)
4) Great place for old engineers nearing retirement, especially incompetent managers that either can’t manage or just too lazy.
5) Place for people that can’t pass any other technical interview
6) hood-wink RSU - vests over 7 years :)
7) old men’s club. Woman have zero authority. Woman managers are just in name only to fill a diversity quota. Mostly from CA initiative

The good

1) you can work from home as much as you like. Nobody cares
2) can take 2 hour lunch nobody will know you are gone
3) you can go to Cafe for an hour or two at random times during day, snacks, coffee, play ping pong. Nobody will know.
4) come in late, leave early, take naps in the wellness room. Chances are you have been assigned to lazy and incompetent manager that doesn’t care because he/she does 1-3 too :)

Under Broadcom they moved me to a team comprised of mediocre engineers. Mostly foreign educated/fake degree holders , incompetent managers , basically they can rest and vest while they wait out visa troubles. On this team I just went back and looked today.... I’ve written about 767 lines of feature code in 2019. Not counting testing code, just features. Does this mean my career is dead?

@bikeboyluver... can’t speak for former EU employees, but in the states everyone I know that left is quite happy, me included.

Some CA/Broadcom folks are clueless...they think the equity/bonus makes them untouchable...not.. all about hitting a profit number. don’t be fooled by FY19. Wait until FY20 plays out...they’ll see.

@12EbkLAB-cqnj I am in London, and Broadcom's offer is nothing special. There is not a single person that left, that regrets not staying with Broadcom (except people that were close to retirement and cannot find new roles). Most companies offer a higher base salary, comparable or better cash bonus and better stock options (certainly the one I am working for now).

In terms of technology, none of the former CA products are top shelf. So, if you want to stay relevant, you need to leave. Also, sooner or later, Broadcom will lay people off from units that are underperforming. And then, these people are at the end of the queue.

@12EbkLAB-6nvc You're in SV, that explains a lot. SV is a bubble. Fantasy Land. Outside of NYC and maybe some companies in Seattle, no one pays like that. Someone posted a salary website here the last week. Check out most other places Broadcom has offices. Then again, how much of that money do you keep with taxes and housing? Heck, in the US we're spoiled. Check out salaries even in London. I'd rather make $200k in the midwest and live like a king then make $500k in the bay area and live in a shipping container.

Yes I’m in SV not entry level. But Broadcom would still k–l anyones career. Zero innovation happens there. Zero. New code means nothing. What did the new code do? Broadcom will only invest what they are already #1 or #2 on. A new product coming out of Broadcom will never happen. Just small features the loudest core customer asks for (and other customers don’t care about those features and neither do future employers) .... Broadcom leadership is currently just window dressing for old products trying to reinvent these fossil products with overhyped AI features that fall way short of customer expectations. They put people in AI roles that play around with test sets , but really have no clue about AI. Feels like charity cases. As for RSU.... nothing vests instantly. My new company I will have more shares vest than the highest year I would see at Broadcom. I think year 3 or 4, basically Broadcom would probably sell my unit to HCL before that day ever happens. Shares vest evenly over 4 years for most companies here. Only Broadcom has 7 year schedule I think first year is like 6%. Amazon is 5,15,40,40, but at least 4 years not 7 like Broadcom. I’ve seen the outside now and I honestly wouldn’t hire anyone at Broadcom. I have to play catch up in my new role, but I’m not sure they would. Broadcom/CA products and architecture is something for early 2000’s. It’s like Broadcom.com being hosted on geocities

@12EbkLAB-5mhg Everything is relative. If you were a lower level employee then yeah, it might not be much. I saw a close to a six figure increase just this year. Even if I only last one or two more years I'm still making out. I'm working on new code every day, so the work itself is still interesting. I would love to know these companies handing out $700k plus of RSU's that vest almost instantly these days. Unless you're in the SV that is hard to believe. Even there those days appear to be over.

@4qbh

You just exposed your ignorance, I truly feel bad for you. Do you really believe Broadcom RSU Grant is top in the industry? Sure its big by CA standards, but far from industry top. Perhaps you should check out website: levelsfyi

I used the above site to only interview with companies that can beat my Broadcom package. Which was most of them :)

@4fyh...

Yep have been saying that for a looong time now to folks. Glad I too left when I did. The WFH was last straw. But remember, there are a lot of old folks working at Broadcom. For many this is their “last stand” and are late career so likely have no choice. I hope for their sake they can make it over the next 2 or 3 years before the axe swings. Most people won’t be around when RSU fully vest, heck peak years are like 3-4 years away...anyone who doesn’t think they’ll be job cuts before then is a fool.

If you’re under 45, under 40 really than GTFU...you’re skills are toast...

"Broadcom is India". You just exposed yourself with that one single comment. Broadcom dramatically scaled back CA's India operation after the acquisition, completely eliminating them from the MF BU. They've been hiring in US, even at non-core sites.

"I found a new job where the RSU pays more the first year than any year under Broadcom. Bonus higher too. " Yeah, that sounds totally believable. Keep telling yourself that.

Yes most CA units are over staffed by about 10%. This is why they don’t replace even half the people that voluntarily leave. RSU really only starts to pay out good cash until the third/fourth year. I found a new job where the RSU pays more the first year than any year under Broadcom. Bonus higher too.

Even if Broadcom paid more staying does far more damage to a persons career. Whatever you get at Broadcom save it, you will just be living on it when companies deem you too dated , lacking in latest technology and skills. Resume goes to the trash heap for months — while you are unemployed. After working for this new job I feel fortunate I got in. Another year at Broadcom my career might have seriously died death by thousand cuts. I wish everyone the same fortune

Broadcom products are old and ripe for outsourcing. Yet they are bloated with layers of expensive (lazy & incompetent) middle management that don’t outsource the products in order to justify the leaderships existence.

Has anyone stopped and asked why did Broadcom just grant everyone these grants?? It’s not like we had to reinterview for these roles (most didn’t). Did you suddenly become more valuable under Broadcom? Of course not. Broadcom doesn’t offer career growth or new projects (much less now) Broadcom knows this. So must string people along this is why India got nearly dollar for dollar grant compared to SV. Think about that. India has the lowest cost of living, the worst schools. In fact. Can’t trust any school in India as the students probably cheated their way through anyway. Then... wait for it. Their role you ask?!?! is mostly fixing small bugs to old products. The future of Broadcom is India. For anyone working in US with more than 3 years career. Then I would highly recommend looking while you can

Never got bonus with CA now I got a big one for first time ever. I miss the work from home not sure why mainframe so against something most common in software industry. Do they want us to leave? Everyone else does wfh. Only frustration but bonus and RSU are great.
