Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

No doubt layoffs will occur AFTER the holidays...

No doubt layoffs will occur AFTER the holidays because laying off before the holidays would be a PR nightmare for Boeing.

If layoffs are going to happen, it will be before Boeing annouces earnings on Jan 29.

So my guess is Jan 23-24 for the layoff announcement.

Layoffs will last approximately two years then they’ll bring you back and you’ll go on strike and be replaced permanently. Everyone at the top on both sides will get a nice golden parachute.

I think there needs to be less resentment from the younger folks & more of a "stick together" mentality....not all "old timers" as we're labeled, are worthless unskilled id–ts merely "existing"....some of us work circles around the "millennial-social media-facebook is more important than my work" crowd. The younger generation sure know how to b–ch about impending possible layoffs due to the "unfair" seniority thing, but I don't see anyone b–ching about the 5k they're gonna get soon even though they weren't around when it was unceremoniously given to us in return for a vote to take away our pensions.....largely a combination of younger new hires hungry for $$ upfront & a corrupt union. Also said union gives them better benefits than most other jobs out there & they couldn't get away with half the goldbricking they get away with, out there in the non-union, real world....benefits a lot of us "old timers" fought for & went on strike for in years & decades past.
Whatever. We're fighting amongst ourselves & it's pointless. The union is what it is, a business, strictly & nothing more. They are in bed with the Co., & anyone that thinks they are there for you is only fooling themselves.Seniority will keep those who've been here longer, here longer. It also keeps losers employed here even in good times.....it's not fair, but it is what it is.Anyone who doesn't like it, is free to look outside for a better job, myself included.
It most likely will get ugly soon, but the last thing us union folks need to do, is be fighting amongst ourselves....the Co. loves that & will strike like a viper when they see a weakened union, trust me.They will not let any crisis go to waste. They will use union disarray to their advantage, they do every time. Some of us have been here long enough to remember these incidences.
My best advice to all: come to work every day, and do your best, until they tell you not to.

"skills have nothing to do with it...work ethic has nothing to do with it....attendance has nothing to do with it....people with lower seniority get bumped, period, until the company hits their number. What level playing field?"

This one has to win the internet for 2019. This is the best description of a Union I have ever seen.

You don't have to be good at what you do, you don't have to have a good work ethic, you just have to EXIST for a certain period of time.

And this is Union mentality...everyone deserves equality, until there is a layoff, then screw the young guys.

Did you ever have a professor who couldn't teach his way out of a paper bag and was an a–. Maybe a high school teacher that you could not figure out why they had a job...tenure. Welcome to Union mentality.

They can move someone from a higher labor grade into a lower labor grade wether they have job rights or not as long as their seniority date is good It’s called Asset Utilization. Trust me I know. In 2001-2 they dumped all my join mechanic friends and replaced them with a bunch of tooling folks. People who had never worked on a plane before but had 20+ years seniority.

That's true about the BEMS; however, the higher the BEMS, the more likely you're a new (or newer) hire.Older hires with smaller BEMS may have lost seniority; however most have not. It's not all about your hire date, it's about SENIORITY.Some people have more Co. time than seniority; it won't help them vs. someone with more SENIORITY. Does anyone understand this? SENIORITY, regardless of job code, will unfortunately win in most cases. Union this, Union that blah blah blah..... just wait & see. They'll put old timers into positions they've never worked, mark my words

Remember that your BEMS number has nothing to do with seniority, It’s your hire date. You could have a “6 digit“ BEMS and only have been employed at Boeing for 3 years. Vendors get BEMS ID’s too.

You don’t have to be currently in a specific job code, to still have bump-back rights for another job code. They cut you outta your job code, you have bump back rights for a different job code, you’re bumping someone with lower seniority.

No one can bump you out of Union protected job that they do not hold rights to. Regardless of their seniority in the company.

Seniority....seniority....SENIORITY.....skills have nothing to do with it...work ethic has nothing to do with it....attendance has nothing to do with it....people with lower seniority get bumped, period, until the company hits their number. What level playing field? If they go back a certain amount of years & you're within that number, be ready.Sorry not trying to sound cold but it's simple numbers to the company. We're all just a number, remember? The higher your number, the higher your chances of getting laid off are. They go by job code too, but people with higher seniority can bump people out of those job codes.

Just wondering if moving to Everett means a level playing field for seniority lay-offs. The skills would be transferred and then the lay-off would be based on seniority after we are all in one pool. Any thoughts. Totally random thought any ideas 💡

But you guys with less than 10 yrs seniority.. evrn if you do get laid off. Just think of it as a temporarily furlough. Those old grandpas & grandmas will be ousted out of Boeing once they take over your jobs. Production is not for the elderly, they get fired one way or another. Force into retirement fast.

How long after the holidays...1 month, 3 months, 6 months...I want to nail it down since the predictions have been so accurate so far.

With "AFTER the holidays" we may have layoffs in 2025 and you would come on here and claim you are right.

Don’t forget, Old Grandmas who have limited job skills will also get your job based on their seniority!

Yes, even with 7-8 years. Program means nothing, & union goes purely by seniority. If they go back far enough year-wise, it doesn’t matter what program one is in, or how long they’ve been in that program. Grandpa will bump new hires....

Even if you work on the 777 it doesnt garanteed your safety net... Unions are work by seniority... that old grandpa that won’t retire will get your job after you’ve trained him lol
