I've heard that the layoffs are not based on a specific number of FTEs, but a % reduction in comp & fringe. Leaders tend to protect their employees, so many offered up open positions, budgeted hires and other items. While that protected a few, the rules didn't allow much of that. The second round for 2020 was established after the results from the first round were calculated. Targets are again based on a % of comp & fringe versus FTEs. Given the large differences between lower and upper grade salaries, there's not really a way for leadership to escape the cuts. UHG needs it's workforce more than a multitude of empire builders. I suspect you will see consolidations, outsourcing and significant leadership changes. Since leaders don't tend to cut their own throats, I anticipate a lot of top down decisions. I was eliminated twice by UHG over 5 years. The last one stuck and it was an ego buster, but I survived and appreciate the lack of stress in my life. I wish everyone the best.
