Simpel answer is nO. Horrible company to work for.
Losers = asset servicing technology management
Winners = People who got out and left instead of crying about how horrible BNY is. Did something about it instead of crying about the obvious every year.
To call your ex or current coworkers slackers is not ethical. Assuming "winners" write some post it characterize very well people who consider them self as a "winners". Also it just prove that BNY have very low moral level and not working ethical department. If you wont to work in serpentarium welcome to BNY.
The bank has always been an odd combination of complacent slackers who deflect work and “Subject Matter Experts”, bank code for “people who care”. SMEs are overloaded, burned out and never really off work. Oddly, it is the heads down SME that is more likely to be displaced than the slacker simply due to the low visibility of hard work. With constant reorgs, excess layers and staff cuts few managers know what their staff do. In this environment a slacker can show up, relax and network with no downside. So, after the next few rounds who will be left to do the work?
seems like the slackers are out in full force. if it's that bad all the whiners would have left, but they can't and don't. the bank is not the gov't and this isn't communism, you gotta take care of yourself, if you're counting on some corporate entity for your future then you're a fool.
To tfj. So far what I see a lot of high level professional with extraordinary experience was separated for last few years only because they over 50 and/ or their title need to be reassign to off-shore resource. All depends on managers. If you unlucky you will work with bad manager and doesn't matter how good you are he will valued just his favorites( who better can k-s his a-s). But if you are lucky than you might be o'k. Good managers are fight for their workers especial if they are good workers. But unfortunately there are less and less good managers.
This is depends what you compare to and what area you are working in. For business people who are working for a bank industry I think it average. A lot of big bank have mass lay offs, not valued their workers, bad management and very political working place. For ITs who not so tie to industry it is one of the worst choice. Talented IT should definitely look to other direction.
To tfj; people don't come to BNY to be slackers. This place breeds them. Lack of respect, forced rankings, c-ap raises and bonus etc
Taking dead puppies from the SPCA to the landfill?
It’s by far the worst banking sector job that I’ve had, including working at an institution which went insolvent. The difference was that senior management were transparent and openly communicated and discussed the situation with all of us. It sounds weird, but human trust, honesty and open transparency is actually far more important to people than job loss. Unfortunately the Bank culture has a lack of trust and cannot do that.
If you can't survive in bny then you're f'd. Because it's a place for slackers which is why many put up with the low pay. It's not that bad compared to many places out there
No matter how bad your situation is, there’s always someone else out there that’s got it worse than you do. Regardless, don’t stay in a miserable environment. If your work is toxic, get out and find another job. Don’t let it affect your physical and emotional well-being. No job is worth that.
Actually, yes there are. Do the best you can do. This comes from one who had an absolute A–hole OF A BOSS who had ZERO people skills.
